Aqua-Soft Forumsi want to instal redhat 9 on my vaio,
And i was wandering if my ipod will mount trought my firewire port ? will linux suport it ? will i be able to play songs from the ipod on linux ?
i'l be leaving work @ 2pm to go install anyways . 
Firewire And Linux
1. Don't use Redhat 9. It's completely out of date. I don't really want to get into the details on which distro to use, there's a 100 opinions, all posted here. Search around. Try out Knoppix though, that's usually a great first start. SUSE also offers a free ISO now, that I hear is nice.
2. On your question, yes you can use the iPod on Linux. There is an app called "gtkpod" that allows you to do syncing, etc. I've never used it, but I know a few people who use iPods with linux, and they haven't complained. It's probably not as easy as iTunes + iPod, but it should work fine. The gtkpod homepage (http://gtkpod.sourceforge.net/) links to a few other scripts/programs as well that might come in handy.
As a fun note, the iPod can actually run Linux. Not much of a reason to do it though, unless you want Ogg support or something. 
3. On your firewire port, the older Vaios used a non-standard firewire (proprietary) setup that didn't work well on other OSs (needed the Windows drivers). That might cause you some issues. Use google.com/linux and search your model. You should find any issues people are having.
