Yo. Just a thought to throw out there, but it'd be neat if there were a program out there that would find the correct genre for a song/album (either for iTMS, Amazon, AllMusic, etc..) Sorta like the various album art finders that are out, but for genres. There's so many variations, and this would make it a lot easier. just a though.

Well, i for one would hate it.
There are soooo many groups/songs that i see in all of the sites you mentioned that are waaaaaaaaaay off their correct genre that it gives me the creeps.
I have all my music caregfully tagged by myself (not to the extent of some freaks like Stevie but hey...) and i would hate to see my cherrished genres being messed up and having all my NIN CD's categorized as Alernative, or Metal

seph, is there any one place you would recommend as a definitive source for genre information? it's the only part of my music that's not categorized and organized.

The best information you can get with regards to the genre of a music group/singer is in their personal website and/or the cd's themselves. They make the music, they categorize themselves

No, I gave a suggestion, but Kurt already mentioned it in his opening statement but the filters in my mind didn't pick it up.

I, for one, would love an app like that. I have something around 4,000 songs, some I ripped from cds quite a long time ago, and don't have ANY genre assigned, some with the wrong genre. It would take alot of time to go through them manually and change the information on each one.
Ya that would be a cool app to make because of the fact that the more songs that you have the longer that it would take to get all the genre's. and if the app had like a database of the most common genres i guess it would make things easier also...
I for one have songs from one end of the genre chart to the other...
