[question]How To Create A Link

I'm having a hard time finding the answer to my problem: I'm trying to create a shortcut to an Internet connection, say when I click it the usual dialog opens to ask me to connect to the internet..now the problem is I can't link to the actual file in "my network connections" because it's not possible to go there through the explorer...then I used the shortcut which gets auto created when creating a new internet connection...so I linked to it, thats works for about 50%: it behaves crazy when clicking on the shortcut on the avedesk item, first time the dialog opens always, makes me connect to the internet, then it doesn't work as usual...

now my question is if theres a way to create a real shortcut to the real file in my network connections, basically like the shortcut which gets autocreated? I just want to replace the normal shortcut with a shortcut in avedesk...

This is a good one:

I just dropped a windows shortcut to my dial up connection somewhere

on my drive and let an avedesk shortcut desklet point to it.

Version 1.10 seems to resolve shortcuts correctly - to some extent.

I can confirm that on first doubleclick it opens the dial box.

If the connection is established, a second doubleclick tries to open it again

on Windows 2000 and nothing happens on XP.

Right clicking on both the windows and the avedesk shortcut, I see

the same context menu, but the latter doesn't reflect the context menu change

from connect to disconnect on online state change.

Until the shortcut desklet offers the option to reparses the entire context

menu on each right click, you're left alone, I'm afraid.

Interestingly, MobyDock would handle this correctly, but would take a longer

time to display...

There's a workaround invloving a simple batch file that should work.

I don't have a shortcut to strat up anymore, but this should work for any sort of dialup

The command is rasdial

USAGE:

rasdial entryname [username [password|*]] [/DOMAIN:domain]

[/PHONE:phonenumber] [/CALLBACK:callbacknumber]

[/PHONEBOOK:phonebookfile] [/PREFIXSUFFIX]

So if you had the connextion named say msn, you create a file with this line in it

rasdial msn

and say it as dial.bat

or if say you needed a name and password

rasdial msn yourloginname your password
