[request] Theme Saving Change

I hate to even post this... AndreasV has given us so much through his hard work and the community has thrown so many requests his way, but here something I think is a must addition to AveDesk: Theme Packages.

Instead of just saving the current configuration, AveDesk NEEDS the ability to save NAMED configurations (Theme packages), like most Windows customization apps. Too often I have a nice AveDesk setup, then want to change up the config to try something new out with a new GUI style. What happens if I want my old AveDesk theme back? At the moment, I have to reset it up from scratch.

A named saving system similar to Object Dock or Icon Packager would allow us to re-use our old themes on the fly and even distribute theme setups for AveDesk 1.1 (which would only help its popularity and success!)

SO if this is asking too much, post it here. If you'd like the same thing, post it here. Please stay on topic and not post multiple requests here. Just agree, disagree, or even tweak the idea.

sure, but only implement it AFTER all the bugs are fixed and additions are made

great idea DZ...I would like to see this as well. in time of course and after bug-fixes within the main program :)

I know its obvious and not complete, but for now you can back up your theme.ini file. It contains most of the config information for your desklet setup.

Im doing that now, but its still a hassle. :P

"Save Theme As" *.AndreaV (;)

I'm strongly AGREE.

I have another suggestion, for AveDesk. To have the abbility to HIDE and SHOW every widget ON THE FLY.

It can be more practical to show the hidden STICKY widget, when it needed than created one every time.

I propose to create a new topic namely 'Avedesk suggestions' or 'What waiting for the next versions of AveDesk' or something else.

Thanks

I agree totally with deadzombie, Duckie and Xanthrax.

1: Theme/Config saving would be great

2: I can wait til version 1.2 to get it

3: We should have a thread for 1.2 wishlist ... Andreas can simply read one thread then!

We want to come up with a robust themeing implementation (well, I want). That's why themeing wasnt added yet for the 1.1 release. Sure, we could do a "Save Configuration As..." option (which would just save to different inis), but that is probably not what you are aiming at.

Therefore, post in this thread what you want to see in the themeing support so we can get some ideas :).

Of course, if it turnes out that you people also want the 'Save Config As...', it'll be added in the next minor update.

ROFL, sorry about that. :)

@deadzombie why dont you backup your theme.ini and replace it with this backup after playing arround.

Then you have all your old configs back.

The save theme as would be a nice minor update for now.

As to XanthraX idea, it would be nice, though the option to 'exclude' widgets to hide like drive shortcuts would be a bonus for that option.

Thanks again.

Slightly different to DZ's original request, but still regarding saving:

Please could we have an option when we manually close AveDesk (perish the thought) that it asks if we want to save our current config (it its changed) - likewise when we shutdown/restart (or Avedesk is closed by another program).

I ask this becuase I have spent lots of time crafting a nice new Desktop only to forget - restart my computer the next day and find all my desklets back to their old look.

Yes, that really really would be a great feature, and I hope doesn't even require you to code a whole new theme implementation.
