I got the 4th gen. 20GB iPod yesterday, and everytime it tries to play a song makes this weird noise for about 3 seconds.I understand that the harddrive is loading but does it have to be so loud. My friend got one also 2 days before me and he doesn't have this problem. His iPod doesn't make any noise but every song it takes 3 seconds to start(after select)and mine sometimes it takes 3 seconds(with a noise(and sometimes the song starts after I press select(without noise). Should I replace it?
[help] Ipod Making Weird Noises
from the standpoint of a non-ipod owner, i would say yes, return it... if it's making an unnatural sound now, what will it be like in 3 months, probably worse. it may be one of the movable parts in the h.d. is loose.
if you want to wait, though, for someone with a player to chime in, maybe other people have that noise.

35% of new shipped ipods have a problem concerning audio where the HD spin is heard through the headphones, return your ipod to Apple through the post or to your nearest Apple dealer to get a new one sent to you. It's a shame that you got one of the bad ipods that have this problem.
Thank Satan! Mine is fine.
I got the problem but it isn't bad. I'm going to Las Vegas on Sunday and the Apple Store won't get any shipments of iPod until next week. I'll return it in 2 weeks!
I should be ordering my iPod sometime this weekend or early next week, and if it has any problems I'm gonna be one pissed dude!!
