Help! Bad Explorer.exe

well I've done it now...I tried to replace the uxtheme.dll per Iceman's directions, and when I started the computer back up, it said there was an error with explorer.exe and it had to close...send error report to windows, blah blah blah. I made backup copies so I thought I'd just replace the new files with the old one. Restart. Same error!! I can't run explorer.exe. I can't even run System Restore. What do I do!?!?! HELP!!!:blink:

If you can replace your 'new' files with the original files they will not produce any errors... Restart your computer after you replace the fuX0red files and all should be well...

Are you sp1? Make sure you are using the right files...

I'm willing to bet you may be using the wrong file versions.

Make ABSOLUTELY sure you have SP1 and the files your getting are for SP1.

This is wierd, if I log on as a different user, there's no error and everything runs okay?! I've restarted with the backuped files in both dllchache and system32 (Aug 2001 files) and still get the error message in the one user. :(

What is it about SP1 that changes the way the graphics have to be modded?

Okay, i think it's fixed. I just did a system restore from the other user. Robooted. And it looks like it's okay. Thanks Duckie and Nobksi. :D

Not the graphics, the apps themselves.

Explorer.exe or shell32.dll from a non-SP1 system dont have the same 'calls/procedures' as the newer ones. Therefore, they crash.
