One thing I would like to throw into the mix ... no, I don't want one that makes toast for me in the morning. I like the widget so far and I also know you've [Andreas] got more work you want to do on it and such so take the following with a grain of salt or leave it bland.
I'm all for 1:1 reps of certain 'widgets' and such, but I DO have a suggestion to make it perhaps follow along with what's been done with AveDesk so far. I OFTEN listen to streaming music be it WinAmp or iTunes or whatever. Thing is, that extra info for the track name, time [remaining time is a useless function for streams] and progress bar are all sort of, taking up valueable space.

I tend to think that if say just the left portion of the widget where to draw on the desktop that that would be rather cool. You'll notice that the track name is actually listed in the "Label". And perhaps a "sublabel" could show such things as Artist/Album/year etc.
Now, IF it were possible to do this with how AveDesk is set up, you know, dynamic data to labels etc... I think this would be a nice feature, as the label can be drawn, well, you know, top, left, right and bottom with different label styles and font etc.
Another way this fits in is akin to the ftp drop desklet. Perhaps if there where options to change the face of the 'media desklet'. Now, I realize that perhaps that will a lot more difficult, as there are active areas on the 'remote' that perhaps can't be moved around [play/pause, track left/right etc.] Also, as the ftp droplet is scaleable, perhaps this could be too ... the hotspots perhaps could scale the same way ... even if we can't design our own png files for 'skinning' the widget.
The green light at the top, that's just the progress slider knob for the actual widget, but perhaps this could signify whether iTunes/Winamp/WMP are actually runny for the desklet to be able to control them. Glowing for "It's running" not so glowing for "Load the the player already!" ... ahem.
At any rate [i say that a LOT] ... just some ideas of mine I wanted to toss out ... if ya don't like'em you can do the same ;-)
