Variants of this effect were seen in the beta tests of Avedesk but didnt make the final version, we fixed some bugs, squashed some squirrels and now we have a nice clean, smooth magnification effect.
To install, make a new folder called Magnification in the 'Effects' folder of avedesk, then drop the .effect file in there.

Edit: Smooth magnification works on everything EXCEPT Object Dock Sysmon docklets. When the effect is applied to these, the icons will shift diagonally, but not magnify. Not a big deal, but just reporting back.

I was wondering...is it possible to create a magnification effect that would look more like on your screenshot? I mean make a transition that would show for ex. 4 states, each bigger and blending into another. Is it understandable? :$

Correction: it doesnt work with sys stats stuff, not just the sysmon docklet
Great effect, but I like to be able to set the speed of the magnification!

Amazing effect... really cool for StickNotes... since you can leave many notes on small size and then they grow for better reading. Just one request (that have been made before) is options for the speed and the size of the grow effect.

There are two varieties with AveDesk 1.1:
1. Effects.
Mainly a Visual C++ written DLL that exports a set of defined functions
and responds to them. The SDK is available at www.dockex.com. Requires some C/C++ knowledge.
This is the variety that Alilm has chosen.
2. EffectLets. (Effect + ScriptLet = EffectLet)
Mainly a XML file that contains some script code and responds to the same set of
'events'; Requires notepad.exe to develop. A SDK is not available yet but if you
can read / understand the available effectlets, you can start coding in vbScript
or JavaScript right away. HTML coders should feel at home already.
Beware that XML has some differencies to HTML - if internet explorer loads the
file without parse errors, its likely that AveDesk will accept it.
This is the variety of choice for folks not knee deep in programming.

Bug??: If you pass the mouse cursor many times full speed over the icon it will shrinks istead of grow. It´s shrinks until reach something like 9 pixels... so cool that i can consider it a feature instead of a bug.

LOL. I tried that on my removable drive and it shrank to oblivion! Had to restart AveDesk and found that my positions and icon size was screwed, just a quick change and it's back to normal.
