[help]system File Modification...

Well, after the recent MS critical patches, I have finally 'ResHacked' my stefanKa system files, and all is pretty much back to normal with one exception...

Chris (flyakite) mentioned to me before what the 'proper name is' of this, but it escapes me...and he has been out-of-touch recently, so hopefully one of our knowledgeable members will be able to rectify my issue here.

Here is a 'ss':

This is what it should look like after replacing the 'comctl32.dll' from stefanKa's Eng sysfiles, and replacing the original one in the following folders:

this file goes in the folder :

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.0.0_x-ww_1382d70a

and

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.10.0_x-ww_f7fb5805

I did this by 'overwriting the original' comct32.dll (User Experience Controls Library), however I keep seeing the 'original WinXP icons' here:

AA.JPG

What could the problem be? As I have opened up this modded stefanKa comct32.dll (which of course was included) in his Eng sysfiles, in ResHacker and this is a bitmap#124...

I have used both AIW5.3 & TweakUI to both rebuild & repair my cache, but the WinXP icons are still there??

Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

:rolleyes::blink:

Same here. After the recent win-update I batchmodded

the Flyakite mod, which worked great, except for:

Any idea people?

Hmmm, very interesting as I'm glad that this is not a isolated issue, as you too are getting this on Chris (flyakite's) files, even after a batchmod...

I know Chris well, and have an email to him, as he 'usually is very prompt' at getting back to me, however I hope that all is ok, and maybe he is just traveling again...

wiebeest, if and when I hear back from him (as I'm confidnet with his keen knowledge), and being the Reshacker God lol, he will/should have a solution...

I will let you know via PM ASAP...lol, as this is troubling moi! Hell, I have spent a good deal of time on this...and to quote one our efficient moderators, Peter:

"Yes, I know about reshacking the shell32.dll (and other sysfiles), it was pure 10 hrs of hell"

because windows update make a new version of comctl32.dll in

"C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.2600.1515_x-ww_7bb98b8a"

New version is "6.0 (xpsp2.040410-0905)"

And other two is "6.0 (xpsp1.020828-1920)" "6.0 (xpclient.010817-1148)"

all you need to do is mod this file again, then everything will back to the way is should be.

Yes, thanks as I have opened up the above comctl32.dll file in ResHacker and then replaced it's bitmaps with those from stefanKa...However, the file was giving me difficulites, when trying to 'overwrite it', as it was in use...

I recall that the other 2 comctl32.dll also displayed like this too, but I found a way to overcome it, but can't remember how in the hell I did it, lol...

I shut down 'explorer.exe' and then renamed the above comctl32.dll (new Ver: 6.0(xpsp2.040410-0905), but this was a big mistake as when I tried to restart my system, it would NOT boot up...

In the process of another reformat...oh well, with give-it-a-go again, after reAquafying...

Any advice of how to properly 'overwrite or replace this important file'...??

Thanks...

Its COMDLG32.DLL Damn it. Not comclt.dll. :)

Hey-hey cool deal as I tried it again, this time making very sure that all files were properly applied before rebooting my system...

Perfectpeter, here is the result:
