This is my opinion to the article:

Unfortunately every point mentioned on the article is old. It clearly by now shows that at the time the article was written all those fears why the Mac dock was a bad idea turn out to be plainly wrong. I do not remember exactly the very first version of the Mac dock but I do know that little has changed.

The MS Toolbar turns out to be a great way to get quickly to programs but now that I have used these freeware docks where you can place 30+ icons and soon will have pop-up menus (this ability can be gotten now by a small additional program) it is faster to find and launch a program through the dock than the Toolbar.

I am a great fan of the toolbar using it 98% of the time to get to 99% of my programs. The Start Menu button is almost useless. Being such a heavy user of the MS Toolbar concept I can say that now I prefer the dock. It is faster to find what you want. Easier recognition of icons and can be organized in a logical way.

This idea that the operator cannot reliably find the place where the target icon resides because of the motion of the dock is in fact totally wrong. The large magnification of the icon makes it faster to find your target with less visual scanning than one would use with the Toolbar.

The use of pictures for standard icons turns out to be a very good idea because even at very small sizes pictures retain visual identity while the icons fall apart at very small sizes to something unrecognizable. I have icons on the dock scaled to 1/2 the size of a standard XP icon and they are easily distinguishable to what they are, this would not be the case for a Windows standard icon.

It is quite obvious after 1-2 years of the dock that those 10 points listed on the article do not have a grain of truth or fact to support it. They are hypothetical views of somebody who had not used the dock for a reasonab

le time.

Most people that spend a relatively short time (1wk) in using the Mac-Dock extensively (with many icons and folders) will reach the same conclusion I did.

None of the docks today offer exactly the same capabilities as the true Mac-dock but they are still good choices to replace the Toolbar in most cases.

Well what else I can say ,good for him, if U see the topic title it has abig LOL ,he has his opinion and the guy on the article has his own ,and I have my own.I like some of the OSX aqua eyecandy but not all of them ,the dock I dont really like ,but that just !ME!,now I hope U dont feel offended .

This article clearly shows how old it is and should not be taken seriously....most of the so-called 'defects' that have been pointed out have already been rectified and now the dock is possbly the most useful addition to my desktop in a long time

.....and the 'start menu' what is that???
