Why You Should Not Buy A 4g Ipod,unless...

I got this from apple.com discussion forum:

"Let's look at it this way, Apple has ordered a bunch of 60GB drives, and some new portalplayer chips. What does this mean? Probably a new 5G (well...4G is really 3.1G, so this 5G should really be 4G) color iPod before this Christmas. Which fits into their statement about introducing ipod models more frequently.

Afterall, the 4G is just some facelift...kinda like WinXP is to Win2000. The battery is unchanged, LCD unchanged, and it probably uses same family of portalplayer chip. My guess is that most of the changes are transferable.

If Apple doesn't release a 3G update, then when 5G comes out (later this year?), how do we know that the 4Gs won't become obselete? You think this makes 4G an appealing purchase?

So give us the 3G update, or lose your future customers."

This belongs in Apple Hardware. Not General Harware, after all, Apple makes the iPods, right?

in fact, if you look real close, XP is 2K plus eye candy and added "idiot proofing" (i'm not trying to offend anyone. i mean it has software added that will make easier to do things that you could do in 2K)

it's true. my main machine only had XP at the time because 2K refused to install on it (mobo problems). my second machine kept 2K and there was practically nothing i did with one that i couldn't do on the other.

With this reasoning, wouldn't it be best to just wait until 10G comes out or 100G? Apple seriously needs a trade-up program.

Maybe they will update iPods more frequently, but how often is the main iPod line updated at the moment? Once a year, right? Ergo, "more frequent updates" probably translates to we'll update iPod minis once a year, and iPods once a year, but on a 6-month deferred cycle, or that they'll update every 6 months for both ranges... I very much doubt that they'd update in July and again in, say, December, unless it was nothing more than a capacity upgrade (á la the 20" iMac release).

Either way Apple execs have said "no 60GiB iPods anytime soon".

Oh, and for what it's worth, just because they have colour-capable chips, doesn't mean they'll use the function... The chip is the replacement for that which was used in 3G iPods, so it's the natural successor to be used in iPods.
