[help] Possible To Make The Tabbed Dock Longer?

I just got OD+ and was messing around with the tabbed dock. I think its great but I wanted to know if you could extend it beyond 5 icon limit?

What I mean is that, say you make a tab and fill it with more than 5 icons, it creates a little '+' which allows you to advance the bar so you can see the rest of the icons.

Is there a way to make it allow for a larger amount of icons shown at once? Thanks for any info.

Yes just put your mouse over the edges so it changes and drag, you can do it on any side so not only can you make it wider but you can make more than one row of icons.

Can you make it look like this ----->>>>>

yes, the dock is a set of resizable windows

IngeneerMind: you sure can, the tabs and tab backgrounds are fully skinnable and very configurable. Not that hard to skin either... i created a full guide and included it with the program, look for the text file in the Backgrounds folder of OD+.

You could without much problem create a set of tabs and a background just like that if you wanted to.

oh yeah, and like posted earlier, there is no size restrictions, just grab the edges to resize the tabbed docks, any number of columns/rows you want.

Jeff, do you mind if I ask some questions\make some comments? I am a registered user of OD+ and I am satisfied for the most part, but:

1. Is it possible to have the selected tab be behind the others rather than overlap (so one can do drop shadows on the tabs). And a setting for the shadows on the tabs just like the background?

2. Is there a way to change the font in the tabs.

3. Also not related to tabs, but for the regular type dock the number for grouped tasks seems too big to me, can you put an option to turn off the number and or change the size of the font? And if it's not too much trouble I think it would be nice to have an option to put indicators under the tasks just like under the shortcuts that are open. That would be to make it more consistent.

Also one thing is that I had thought there would be more flexibility on where you can put the task area just like how you can put a docklet anywhere. Like when I make a new dock I can place a task area in there and a systray as well if I wanted to and place them in between anything in the dock.

One last thing is I like how it can group tasks but what would be even nicer is if the program already has a shortcut that the task would be grouped with it and not shown in the tasks (as an option perhaps).

If those things can be done or if they would be added OD+ would be the perfect dock to me.

smoke:

1. you can't have it be behind, however you can set your skin settings so that the tabs do not overlap at all, e.g. what you would want if your tabs were square. I'm sure though that that's probably not what you're looking for, but that's something i can't say i've thought of - perhaps there could be a second bitmap for a shadow that would be applied first, and then the other images would be laid on top, thus to give the illusion of a shadow. interesting idea.

2. not currently no. This will almost certainly be added to a v1.x release.

3. i'll put up a post on the newsgroups about that, perhaps there are others who think the same. Perhaps a small slider in the content options would be not overly intrusive. As for indicators, I agree it would be more consistant, but perhaps redundant. Wouldn't be that hard to do programmatically though, perhaps i could find a good spot to put in an option.

basically the problem that we see with the whole tasks/systray being seperated/not seperated out bit is the technical problem of if you don't have them separated out and that's left up to the user, where are new tasks supposed to be added? There've been several potential answers we've gone through to try to work around that technical puzzle, but all of them fall short in one way or another. I wouldn't lose all hope on it, but it's not top priority overall.

about the tasks stuff, while we have some ideas of what we're going to do in the first batch of v1.x's of OD+, we haven't pinned down exactly what we're going to do a little later in them... perhas a new way of dealing with tasks will get some play :)

hope OD+ is working well for you, cya smoke

Hey Jeff, thanks for the replies.

For the shadow on the tab the idea you mentioned sounds even better ("second bitmap for a shadow that would be applied first") than what I mentioned in my previous message. That sounds good to me.

About indicators the thing that made me think of that was of course the OSX dock but also the third party A-dock that also puts indicators under all tasks.

As for tasks, I can imagine how it could be a little tricky to pin down what you want to do in them. My idea however is all about flexibility. I myself would like to be able to group all alike icons together to cut down on redunancy (which would also make indicators make more sense to have). But I imagine that some people like the way it is as it is now. So I was thinking of some kind of way to have it so you can place the tasks anywhere like a docklet but yet group a task with a shortcut if there is a shortcut for a task that is open.

Anyway OD+ is working really well for me anyway, and thanks for taking the time to go over my comments and consider them. :D
