I, Robot

Eh-em. This would be a better thing to do when I actually worked at a theatre since every Thursday night we watched the new releases, but oh well.

Positives:

Excellent CG

Nice story line

Negatives:

Most one liners are not that funny, they try too hard to have comedic elements

Slow at times

Nit-Pick:

Will Smith tries to sing

In a room of 1,000 robots evenly spaced out in rows, it's not hard to find a misplaced one

A Transformer!!!

If you are wondering about the title, it is as if it were taking an oath, "I, Robot solemnly sear..."

If you like Will Smith's body, the first half-hour will satisfy all your non-nude needs. This book is suggested off of a book with the same title, though they only took ideas that they liked and made a book.

I enjoyed it, although I had low expectations for the movie I have to admit.

From the trailers I have seen, it'd have to be *really* loosely based on the book. I'd like to see this film. I'd also like to see the book made as a film in it's own right as I love Isaac Asimov short stories.

I absolutly refuse to see this movie. They took Asimov's work, shot it in the face, and ran it over with a steam roller. It's not even loosely based on his work. They pretty much came up with their own idea, and then added Asimov's 3 rules. And finally, Asimov's robots would never riot. That's why the 3 rules are there in the first place.

Sorry for the rant. This is just something I feel strongly about.

Totally agree. Asimov places his robots in various situations where

they seemingly run loose but the outcome is always that they never do.

However, his robot stories don't provide enough action for Hollywood, they

are more developing on a Miss Marple / Agatha Christie pace, so Hollywood

is excused, methinks...

This is not at all supposed to be based on Asimov's stories, in the credits, it states "Suggested by Asimov," not "Based" or "Inspired."

I read I, Robot about 4 years ago and enjoyed it a lot. I just saw the movie last night, and I must say, it's also quite enjoyable, albeit in a different way. As others have noted, the movie is only loosely related to the book, but I still think it stands on its own merits as an action flick. You can tell that this movie has good production values—the aesthetics are just amazing—and the only point at which I even came close to groaning inwardly or feeling embarrassed for the movie (the classic signs of a film that's not working) was during a maybe one-minute portion of the movie that had narration about the robotics and the import of the three laws—i.e. one of the few parts of the movie that seemed to try to tie itself in with the book. I was drawn in by virtually everything else in the movie.

I think anyone refusing to so much as see the movie because the trailer shows robots "rioting" is misguided. If you don't see the movie, even if you're "sure" what you're refusing to see runs riot over all Asimov stands for, you forfeit the right (in my opinion) to criticize the movie. There are some nicely done twists that you wouldn't necessarily be able to anticipate from having merely seen the trailer. The beauty of this movie is that those who haven't read the book can still get into it and appreciate it as an action film—the film stands on its own. Even though I'm a fan of the book, I frankly don't think its actual content would've made a particularly compelling movie.

I suppose people are largely taking issue with the appropriation of Asimov's title for use atop a movie that doesn't really contain many vignettes of Asimov's imagining—and that may be a valid complaint. As far as action flicks go, though, this is one of the better ones that have come out recently.

I generally don't like films with Will Smith in; not really my taste. However, I've watched the trailers and read around a bit and this does look quite a good film; a good concept, at least. Will probably go and see this when it comes out in the UK

Isaac Asimov is my favorite author, I have read all of his books and had extremely low expectations for this movie. So I was suprised to find myself actually enjoying it, and decided that while it didn't stick with Asimov's original story that it did have some merit. Nearly every major event that happens in the movie happens in one or another of Asimov's books, in one way or another. It's like they (the filmmakers) read everything he wrote, picked out the "good stuff," and jammed it all into this movie. Using the title "I, Robot" is my biggest complaint with the movie, as it has nearly nothing to do with the original work of Asimov. The robots don't "riot," by the way. I think you should give the movie a look see before you judge it so harshly. To be incredibly cheesy allow me to remind you that you cannot judge a book by its cover, likewise you cannot judge a movie by its trailer.
