Hello World

hey guys, i have been trolling these boards for a few weeks now, and i decided to make myself known.

i am still learning all these visual tips and tricks, but the one thing that i can't seem to figure out is how on some of the screen shots the max/min/close buttons that are usually on the top right hand corner are swapped to the left side..

HOW DO YOU DO THAT???????????????

and btw, after all these visual effects and running a dock/y's shadow does anyone know how many extra resources these consume?

Hello and wellcome to the community man!!

you can change the max/min/close buttons location using a program called WindowBlinds, you can find it at www.stardock.com, but you will have to pay for using it more than 30 days. It not just change the locations of the buttons, it'll also skin the windows, start menu, etc...

It's a cool program, but it uses a lot of resources, so if you don't have a powerfull machine you should try StyleXP (it also skin almost everything but it won't change the location of the max/min/close buttons).

No, Window Blinds is free without expiring. (with features disabled of course).

I suggesst ShellWM, itll do that for you, thats what I use and its free. Ja450n made a cool aqua skin for it. http://shellwm.sourceforge.net/. Ja450ns site: http://home.attbi.com/~ja450n/ .

The docks use about 8MB (give or take), but when "scrubbing", uses 100% CPU. Y'z shadow uses about 1-2MB of RAM and doesnt really slow you down. I suggesst you enable "Temporarily disable shadows when moving windows".

i have been working on a cd that has winxp sp1 plus all the icons and dlls' to totally reskin the os into a facelift. its worked good but the only thing is that there are constantly new releases or i keep finding new progs to put into it....

for now i have just changed all the cpl's dlls to that of ones on the jonmega stuff. def looks great.

that rainlander is a pretty nice app too.

i have a brainfart that is affecting my network at home, i'[ll just throw it out here cuz i've exhasted most of my resources trying to figure this out

i have internet sharing at home, winxp ics, and my client comp can browse webpages, but it can't DOWNLOAD anything.. i disabled firewalls on both, but everytime he tries to download anything the window will prompt, but then just time out.

anyone have any idea?

It sounds like a Browser or Security thing. Check your security settings, and have you tried a different browser. I had a similar problem, and it turns out it was with IE, cause it worked fine with Mozilla.
