What Docklings/plug-ins Would You Like To See

What Docklings/Plug-ins would you like to see to extend the capabilities of the dock:

here is a sample for the real Mac dock:

Here's what I'd like to see:

1. Show running tasks

Show all running processes with window snapshots and icon overlays.

2. System Folder lister

Ctrl+click gives folder listings for system folders, like Control Panel, My Computer, My Network

3. Applications Folder - Start Menu lister

Combine All Users + Current User for the Start Menu list (when you Ctrl+click)

4. Winamp/QCD/WMP player Menu

Ctrl+click shows play options like MobyDock

Does anyone know what will and will not be possible with the Docklets? Has Mr. Y revealed any info about this yet?

This isnt really a plugin, but have the Dock act as a taskbar to minimize/maximize apps (like OD).

a Mozilla/IE/Phoenix/Opera Plugin to allow you to go Back/forward/ Type a URL, etc.

Dunno if it would be a docklet or not but maybe if you could find a way to skin some menus like OSX and then be able to put things in them, and then accessing the menu by clicking a dock button, that'd be cool.

Definitely would like to see a docklet for an iCal icon where it would cycle images for the date (like on the real Mac). Everyday at midnight, it would cycle the images for the appropriate date. This would be so nice to have the date at the bottom so you woudlnt have to look, and when someone makes an iCal app (hopefully soon because I think it would be awesome, even though it would be hard) we could link it to that. Anyways, thats my dream docklet. Later.

Oh, and also I think it would be great if there was a docklet that made the instant messenger icon bounce whenever you have a new message, because sometimes it is hard to tell when someone is talking to you. Anyways, and if it wanted to there could be an overlay (little red graphic with the number of messages you have missed in white in the center...like Mac)!!! Sorry for the long post, but these would be great! Later.

My Mac was takin from me yesterday

But the reason why is it is being replaced by a top of the line Xserv for development on the project I'm working on. I will have another Mac (to replace the one that was taken, a 17" iMac I believe). So once I get that I can try to rip all the iCal icons off for each day, reproducing them would just be a pain in the butt.

I would really like to see a docklet like that too!

And the Trash w/ multiple icons sounds sweet!

I too am going to start playing with the Docklet SDK the moment it is released.

Yeah the trash with like 5 states for how full it is would be great. Like a little bit for under 10 things deleted, a little more for 20, 3/4 for 30 and full for over 40. Thanks jONEz for offering to get those images. That will help again. I am just wondering if it would be hard on the dock to cycle 365 icons??? I guess it wouldnt be too bad. I think at midnight you just program it to load a certain image based on the date. Anyways, hope Mr. Yamaguchi is reading this. Is the SDK out yet? I think we could do some great things with this. i suggested this a long time ago to all 3 of the dock developers, but none of them would listen to me , maybe if more people request it would could see such a feature in the next realeases

a simple weather docklet that u could have point to 1 or more zip codes/cities/countries etc. and would change PNG based on weather condition - i know samurize and others have attempted to this but most all are very lame and very limited - mac os has a wonderful app called www.konfabulator.com that all mac users should be using - not only is there a weather "widget" but people have created 100's of different widgets for all sorts of things - anyways thats my wish -

whats taken so long on more docklets anyways? is no one developing til "THE MAN" releases SDK?

Hi all!

I already have 365 (366 actually) iCal PNGs for every day of the year. That sums up to 9.5 MB, so think twice before you say you want them.

I've written a few programs in Visual Basic that use pop-up menus accessible from the dock (mobydock, for the time being), but it seems I can't get them to work in every PC, so I have to find a workaround before giving them away. (VideoMann, thanks for the help!)

My future plans include:

a dock switcher

a weather icon

an "itunes" menu for winamp

an alarm app

Until plugin support, the only way to make an icon appear/change in the dock is currently to shut the dock down and reload it after changing its .Ini file or any PNGs. That's why it's not so wise to try to make a "plugin" for IMs or anything that needs to refresh frequently.

Any help from programmers (VB) would be welcome.

Hey I'm back and so are the forums !!

Why not just use one png for all the days of the year. Just use image overlays or code to do the same effect. An example would be the clock or cpu ussage. Both use one image and have code to display whats going on.

Love that MSN Messanger and trashcan idea!!

Also want "Mac like" pop-up menus without using other aplications to get the same effect (never could get that program to work right with Y's Dock).

I would also like real time running tasks for CERTAIN programs that are running and minimized. Like Quicktime, Media Player, iCalc, and etc.. Don't need it for every running app., and only for when it's minimized.

Other things I need can't be mentioned here, because of topic resons.

i don't know if it could be possible with docklets or is it more to Mr Y to code it but i would like that for runnings apps (either with the right click or a long click) you could be able to exit the app.

like if in the right click menu under properties of dock item you'll have something like exit {running app}...

that would be definitly nice!

On the real osx, theres a game it's a copy of an old handheld wooden box game game but I forgot what it's called.

Theres a box with a red button, green button, yellow button and blue button,.. and a red led with numbers,... and you have to press the coloured buttons.

Anyhow apple changed it into a docklet game for osx (like 8 ball),.. damn I forgot what it's called,... it either begins with s or v.
