Aqua-Soft Forumsgaim has a windows port of their messenger (aim, msn, icq, yahoo) and the buddylist has features closer to ichat than trillian (view attached file). All it need is a theme and itll be real nice. Check it out.

Gaim is really not that customizable. And its been out for a while. And on top of that, last time i used it, the windows port was pretty buggy.
Gaim is no iChat for sure. Any messenger than takes liberty to re-group my MSN contact list is not cool at all. GTK for windows sucks.
Look at your memory footprint, it's huge compared to say, trillian, or miranda.
Once again, GAIM is insanely buggy on Windows, you cant use it for more than a day without 6 crashes or so

um... sorreh guys, but the latest version of gaim (v. 0.81) is very stable. it hasn't crashed since i updated to the latest version. they've come a long way since they first started. i'd say give it a try. its a nice alternative if ya can't afford the Pro version of Trillian (i'm not bashing trillian, i love it, this is just a nice alternative). and although its not very customizable, i'd just as soon try this port out.
I've used GAIM a lot, and it doesn't crash on me. I just stoped using it because it looked so plain.

Same reason I stopped using it.
I really like GAIN but I switched to Miranda. Which has been actin' funny lately.
been using gaim for a couple months now, it hasn't been that buggy for me...
