The Epitome Of How Cosmetic Our Society Has Become

Hi Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls. Tonight, at least where I am, I would like to ask you an important question?

How bad do you think our society has become, do you really rely on looks over knowing a person? Is it really so bad that we look at a person and instantly like them? Even though they could be a total git?

Would you guys pass a so said "bad looking" person on the street and think oh what a fat **** what exactly is bad looking and does it really matter anymore?

Thank you for paying attention to this topic and sorry if I have offended anyone, or misread the rules. If so please feel free (Admins or Moderators) to delete, move, eat, fart om or do whatever you like with the topic.

Thank you.

This seems somewhat familiar ;)

I think that man (males and females) are naturally attracted to good looking people straight away, but I guess the term attraction is a little vague. Most people will go into a room and instantly see the good looking people in the room first, its just instinct, you can't escape it.

I think it's natural to question societies pre-occupation with apperance for many reasons, yet I cant always agree with socities conclusions. As human beings we are genetically wired to seek out the best genetic mates for us to reproduce with and to better our own bloodline. It is ingrained in each persons psyche to be attracted to certain physical standards. Examples might be a more muscular male for females for an increased chance of survival in potential offspring, a woman with 'curves' (letting our brains know that the 'curvey woman' has an excellent child bearing figure), our even aspects indicating the overall health of an individual, such as rich skin coloration.

Even though we dont consciously think "damn shes hot, I bet she could be a good mate for popping out healthy babies", we instinctively translate that nice ass into the same thing. While these are only examples, these drives push us to be more open to people society labels attractive.

This has it's drawbacks. A nice ass and rock hard abs do not define a persons soul or personality. Like everything in life, we must do our best to balance our nature against our enviroment.

But thats just my opinion.

man is attracted to beauty.

it could be the result of evolutionary change. perhaps these little things we notice are semiotic proxies for biological information that we can't readily identify.

good answers... honesty hurts sometimes, but its better than lies.

don't forget though... personalities can be damn attractive on both sides and so can intelligence. That said, physical attractiveness is pretty important. That doesn't mean if you don't have it that's the end all be all.

The weirdest thing though is that physical attractiveness and personality/intelligence can be almost entirely seperated. Sometimes they work against each other: there's alot of people who are good looking, but so intellectually/personality impaired they aren't 'hot' beyond a couple of sacs (or as long as you can stand).

I mean, there are some physically hot people with such foul personalities they look ugly the second their upper lip starts raising. And their looks can be the problem... they might never have to try anything or feel the sting of reality (not that it isn't there for them, their just too obsessed with the success of their looks). This means they get so detached from a more generalized reality that they allow themselves look like and become "dumb lays".

If your really bitter about that sort of thing... don't be. You got your own life to lead, so when it comes up from time to time and a good looking biatch/asshole (no all, just the ones that are!) tries to get something from you (ie. they mix their stupidity with pathetic feined pater/mater-alism or use 'bed eyes' to get a favour, or just act a general mindless idiot), kindly take their words and shove them down their throats in a way anyone around you will find obvious. Not be cruel or anything, just take the obvious and hold it in front of their eyes so they can't miss it. :P

I mean, look at deadzombie.. he's just a braineating peice of decaying flesh and he's married(i dunno, maybe) and got a successfull career in tech, or dreamz... just a floating orb of detached androgynous head with a dropshadow, and he's an economist.. and alilm, a lowly connector outdated within 10 years by superior wireless technology and he's doing fine.

^^ lol

and it's so funny being branded an economist. always thought of myself more as a philosopher, hehe.

the eye is naturally attracted to aesthetically pleasing things. and compare two equally smart, capable, etc. men, one good-looking, the other not. ceteris paribus, people will notice the good-looking one, and he'll most likely do better.

but statistically speaking, most people are not considered "good-looking," and yet these very same people are leaders, innovators, thinkers. looks are definitely not the primary quality.
