[question] Block Running Processes?

hey all,

I've been having problems with spyware recently, and have tried three different anti-spyware programs, ad-aware, spybot, and trackzapper. The only one which really worked was tz, but it only got some of the junk. After just a few days a lot of it is back. Anyway, my main question is: Are there any programs out there that stop certain processes from restarting, or starting at all? i.e. I select optimize.exe to NOT load in the first place?

BTW- I am running ZoneAlarm and Norton System Works, but its not helping.

try spybot search & destroy... i've always had the best results from that anti-spyware app...

another thing to do is use a freeware app called spywareblaster... it's kind of like a firewall for spyware.

many of the processes running are rooted to what services you have set to automatically start when you turn on your computer.

to stop services from starting, go to the start menu, run and type in services.msc and click OK.

As I mentioned, I allready tried that, but it couldnt get the running processes, at least not as far as I know. Trackzapper was the only one I found that did that. If spybot can do that please point out how.

... and the programs themselves... are starting ... themselves. Run -> msconfig has a tab for startup programs... find a site with info about Windows startup programs, e.g., http://www.windowsstartup.com, and uncheck everything you can't determine to be legitimate.

yeah, definitely look in msconfig or the "run" key in the registry.
