[question] A Way To Download Xp Updates

Hey there!

Here's my problem: I want to install all patches to my firend's computer with WinXP, but I'm too lazy to take my LAN card out and put it in his computer to download it from Windows Update. Is there a way to download all these things normally, I mean thru ftp or something like that? I already have sp1a, but it says that it was updated in 2003 >.:)

ps. and yes, I tried to find it on MS website. Failed >.<

I don't know how up to date this page is, but you could always compare the patch numbers from windows update.

Thanks much, that's exactly what I've been looking for ^_^

what you can also do is go to autopatcher.com... download the full update and burn it to a cd... they release an update monthly, it's all the updates from ms.

i've never tried autopatcher, but i've heard good things about it. and it's made by a mod over at neowin. ^_^

it's very good, anytime i reinstall xp, i use that as my starting point to get windows updated... then i go to the win update to get anything that's been posted since the last time autopatcher was released... it's a lot better than having to wait 30+ minutes for everything to download first from ms.

I know for certain this site is kept up to date. ;)

Autopatcher is like 3 months behind on fixes.

Not really worth it if they can't be up to date.

I mean really, MS releases fixes on the second tuesday of each month.

Not like it would be that hard to keep their site current with that kind of a release schedule.

As always, just my opinion.

I have to agree with Smoke, get 'em from the source.

when you reinstall windows and have to reapply all of the fixes, there's how many? plus the fact you have to do some of them individually (e.g. directx, virtual machine, etc.) with autopatcher, you can do them all at once.

i use autopatcher for the bulk of the fixes, then like i said before, just go to win update to get the been ones that have been posted since the last time autopatcher was released

plus, with autopatcher, you can save default patches to install so if you ever need to use it again, the ones you picked from last time would already be selected.

unless you slipstream all of the patches into the xp installation, autopatcher (in my opinion) is the quickest way to get back running.
