okay my friend has mac os X 10.2.8. He downloaded the mac os X DMG file off of the main site and extracted the bittorent file out of the dmg file into the applications folder like it says. but when ever he tries to access a .torrent link, safari just downloads it instead of starting Torrent up, and when he tries to run just the .torrent file from his harddrive, the icon bounces in his dock twice then nothing happens. Does anyone know why this is?

yup, this is how it goes, bolero...
Once the .torrent has been downloaded by safari, double clicking it will open the bittorrent application and start downloading. This is specially useful if you have to restart; you already know where the .torrent file is, all you need to do is double click and it will resume

Are you positive the application is properly installed? Have you tried a diff Bittorrent client?
no we havnt tried a different bittorent im not sure what other ones are out there for mac (i have to help him over msn) anyways, we drop the bittorent application into the applications folder (he has to be admin account to do this) then when ever he runs a .torrent file.. bounces twice.. nothing happens...
Have you suggested the old remove re-install? this sees weird
Maybe a different download source? the dmg might be corrupted, who knows...
If you aren't using it; Try Tomato Torrent, it's the best Client I've used on either Mac or Windows. You don't specifically need to keep the App in the Applications folder, it's just recommended by most people because it's 1) easier to find, 2) easier to update/patch/etc.
Is it possible that this particular bittorrent client requires a language interpeter (java, python, perl, etc.) and that it is not installed? this happened to me trying to load Azureus (I think) on a Win machine once.
Have you tried a drag/dump of the torrent file onto the application?
I used the official client on panther and that was how i got it to work the first time. Now i use iSwipe.
