[question] So, How Is Pear Pc Working For You?

I am thinking of aquring some OSX discs and I was wondering if it is worth the trouble to try and install OSX on your PC through PearPC. Has anyone gotten very good results, good functionality and relatively fast processing speeds? I know the clock fix or whatever it was now emulates at 667 mhz (?). Does it really do that? Or, does it just show it in the 'About This Mac' window. Thanks for the input guys.

I'm using PearPC now, and i'm in Panther writing this reply. PearPC is a bit slow for me. It is usable. But I wouldnt buy OSX for PearPC. I was lucky, I had a friend that's got a mac.

All I use it for is iChat and Safari. It's to slow for me to do other stuff. It might be ok for things like word, but I havent received that off my friend yet.

It runs my Panther in 680MHz PowerPC 3G. It doesent feel like 680MHz, it feels slower, but I havent used a 680MHz mac, only a 680MHz PC.

My PC spec is, AthlonXP 1800+, 512MB RAM, GeForce3 Ti500. I'm gonna try it on my AthlonXP 3000+ Barton. Should be a lot faster.

PearPC isn't working for me-- I could never get it to operate. Plus it would probably run like crap on my 533MHz eMachine.

A 680mhz G3 shouldn't be that slow I have used Panther on a G3 (which as far as I know doesn't exist, it'd be a G4 and have altivec but since it seems that doesn't it registers as a G3). I have used Panther on a G3 Blue and White tower half that rating and it ran well enough to do schoolwork for graphics design. If it truly was that MHz it'd probably run just a little slower than a G4 if at all because of the lack of altivec as that is used in specific applications.

But then again some people are more sensitive than others like for example this one guy at the computer lab at the design school I wen't to said he thinks Panther chugs on both the G4's and the G3's in the lab.

I just think PPC emulation is slow in general.

I run Panther on my G3 500Mhz iBook and it runs 10x faster than PearPC.

Just because PearPC reports to Panther that it is a 6??Mhz G3, it really is not even close.

I have PearPC w/Panther running on my 1.13Ghz Thinkpad with 1GB of ram at work and it's still extremely slow.

Remember, this thing is not even a full point release.

It may be at least a year or so down the road before we see a fully functioning 1.0 release.

Probably longer.. who knows.

It's cool for playing with, but I would never purchase OS X just so I could use it on an alpha release product.

Just my opinion, so take it for what it is.

I tried PC running PearPC running VirtualPC but all I could do was install and setup as soon as I tried to boot Win it created a JITC error >.<

Someone has succesfully got Mac running VirtualPC running PearPC tho....
