[ann] New Version Of Winplosion Soon!

I just recieved a pre-release beta of the new WinPLOSION and I gotta say that it TOTALLY BLOWS THE PANTS OFF THE OLD VERSION. The animation is perfect, you can adjust the speed of the animation more precisely (with a slider). You can use any hotkeys (including F9, F10, F11 without having to use the control, alt, or win keys). I have been testing it for a couple of days and so far no problems. The new application exclusion is a big help for knocking out stuff like desktop widgets, objectbar, y'z dock, or whatever you want. You can set it to expose all windows or only windows that are not minimized.

When this release is fully tested and available for purchase, I will let everyone know, keep an eye on this topic

Yeah, it will be free if you have version 1, just send them an email at www.winplosion.com (include the name of the cardholder that purchased it and the original order#) and ask them to send you an email when the next release is available.

If you haven't purchased it yet, get it, it's only $9.95. To get really good animation, you should have the latest processor and a good ammount of memory (over 512mb ram). The version that is out right now has very good animation, but is a little limited when it comes to hotkeys). The new version is awesome, and it actually makes your computing experience more convenient and productive. Not only does it look like a Mac, it is as functional as a Mac.

I kinda have my hopes more for Expire as their demo so far is running great on my system and it's nowhere near the requirements for Winplosion.

So far the testing of the new beta version has gone flawless. Pretty much my issue with the first version was once in a while it would crash my system, and I would have to restart. I actually tried to crash it last night and it wouldn't break, even after loading 40 application windows, playing a movie, playing itunes, and doing a virus scan all at once, the program would not crash. Of course with all of that running, the animation started to get a little choppy, but seriously? who has that many windows open on their computer at one time. One other problem the program still has is the show desktop command, the animation is very much improved, but sometimes your windows pop back up after the animation, i'm pretty sure they will be able to figure it out.

Erm... are those who are mentioning Expire being good finding it to be a functional program? Not that I don't think what's been done with it so far isn't great, but I considered it more of a demo than an actual usable program... its effect was promising but not that great, and wasn't functional at all, so I'd have to disagree with those who seem to be giving the impression that Expire, as an awesome Expose clone, is right around the corner. Maybe it was just my computer, but it was an absolute mess in terms of actually using it for productivity.

I didn't mean that it's the most robust complete program of that type out there for windows at the moment. I just meant that the engine seems to show more promise to me than all other expose clones to run well especially on systems that aren't exactly top of the line like mine.

As requested, I downloaded the latest version of expire and compared the graphics to winplosion, here are the results:

A) Usability: Exposed window sizing and positioning

Expire: whenever I used expire, it always shrunk the windows small, even if I only had 2 open. I found this to be very inconvenient because with the windows that small I had a hard time identifying.

WinPlosion: when I use winplosion, if there are only 2 windows the program shrinks them just enough to fit them both on your screen

Exclusions

Expire: I was unable to exclude items like rainlendar and object bar

WinPlosion: With WinPlosion you can exclude anything you want

C) Stability

Expire: Although the animations on expire are very impressive, it did not prove to be stable enough for everyday usage. Program crashed after too many windows were opened.

WinPlosion: I have been using this for about 2 weeks now, although the previous version used to crash, this one hasn't yet. I actually tried to crash the program by opening an insane ammount of windows. It sucessfully exposed 65 windows on my system while I was running a virus scan, playing a divx movie, and playing iTunes (animation was a little choppy, but who really uses that many windows)

D) Overall look and feel

Expire: When windows are exposed, you do not see your desktop wallpaper, just a solid blue background. Also I noticed that the program sometimes fails to capture a window (meaning it shows up as a black box)

WinPlosion: When windows are exposed, you see your desktop wallpaper only. Animation is very smooth and the speed is variable. The program never fails to capture a window, and 99% of the time the captured window is exactly that window (not 5 minutes age like the previous version).

By comparing these 2 programs, I have found that WinPlosion not only offers a Macintosh like effect to your system, but it actually adds a fully functional tool that you can and will use all of the time (even my girlfriend, who knows nothing about the computer loves it, she said "now I see why you spend so much time trying to make your computer like a mac, it's actually easier to use".

I know the program isn't free, but someone's got to get paid sometime. I didn't like having to pay for it but I sucked it up and did it and I am glad I did. The way I look at it is we don't just want our systems to look like OSX, we also want to have the same functionality (do you want a car that just looks like a ferrari, or looks and performs like one?)

As far as I know, the company that published this program are working on making it more like expose (if you look at the new control panel, you can definetely tell). I have been cooresponding with them about adding a feature that would allow you to still see your desktop (dimmed of course) while exposing. And maybe forming a business relationship where sites like Aquasoft and osx-e could refer customers via links or banners in order to bring more revenue (running these sites does cost money, once again, someone has to get paid).

I was just informed that the next release will be out shortly (1-2 weeks) and they have prepared a 14-day fully functional trial version, so you guys can check it out

@MrFooWon: i dont think you can compare Expire to WInplosion, you do know that Expire is in Beta2? its like your compairing 2 complete programs but expire is not complete. Of course Expire is not going to have the blue background, your going to see your desktop, Its just beta 2. And of course it wont be stable, its Beta2. Gotta look out for these things, cannot compare these 2 at the state Expire is in..

The first version did suck and I totally forgot that I had it until they emailed me saying that there's a new version.

It sucks having to pay for the app but the app itself (the new version at least) does not. :6

Tried the new version. Wow. It sucks it is not free, but it is amazing. Mac OS X is designed to work with Expose, but Windows' not, and Winplosion manage to do the same effect nevertheless. Placing is good, captures are accurate (didn't have a glitch yet)...

But :

- Captures are static (a video wont play, etc. OK, it a Windows limitation)

- No label on hover

- Jerky wallpaper

- No taskbar while expose

We can't make a comparaison to Expire yet, but even if Winplosion is nearer of true Expose than Expire, Expire :

- is customizable

- has more options

- has a better capture engine

yea, it works nice | smooth app.

The only problem is the cpu it consumes, about 14% to 20%. That is a no-go.

Capture is NOT static, a video play (used media player classic and it works)
