[help] Objectbar / Features From Windows & Osx

My question might be awful easy to answer, but I can't seem to find the solution. What I need is a combination of functionality from Windows and OSX (as it just looks better) with ObjectBar.

Actually I only need the nice tray offered in most OB-packages, but normal start menu and programs represented by the taskbar. How to do that? Do I need to make some changes to an original theme or could it be that this was made already?

Notice that the start button and programs works normal whereas the tray showing services and clock has some kind of OB-look - well nice looking icons.

I might be totally of track here - maybe it ain't even necesary to use OB, but I have no idea...

If I apply a standard OB-theme, say like Tiger 10.4, everything in the taskbar/systray is changed to MacOS with "File, Edit, View...." menu, which I don't want. I only need the style/functionality of the systray.

Did that help a little?

you can do that, but there's not really any point in using obbar if i understand what your saying.

you want the tiger look without having menus pulled and with a normal windows taskbar 'tasks' section (splayed across the bar instead of grouped in a menu).

Really, using obbar is a bit excessive for what you want to do(not counting stardock marketers), unless your really particular about a couple of minor menu customizations.

If you want to try it.. just go to general options in obbar and uncheck the remove menus option, then, for windows style active tasks right click the taskbar, insert... 'new section' and choose taskbar from the dropdown. Finetune.

Just to make it clear - here are a few desktops showing exactly the taskbar/systray as I want it:

I begin to get the feeling that its not at all done with OB, but simply by some small apps to the systray, but can anyone explain which?

Well thank you "realitybath" - you opened my eyes to something new in OB. Very easy ofcourse to just add the taskbar and remove the OSX menus.

I see your point in resources, as this is quite an app. to run just for some small changes, though I didn't exactly understand: "not counting stardock marketers"...

In relation to my last post, do you have any other ideas as to get somewhat closer to what I want simply by making some changes to the systray (icons)?

i was just joking... i meant the guys at stardock will tend towards saying everyone needs obbar.

Its 99% certain that all 6 screenshots you showed are NOT running obbar, they just have the themed bar that comes with a particular msstyle.

As for the assorted 'tray-type' icons that you desire, most are just reshacked(google for reshack) tray icons from their respective application. The ones on the left of the taskbar are quicklaunch icons using custom icons.

the fourth sshot has what i assume is a samurize(search the forums) config. that is showing a green spectrum band (audio).

One of your previous sshots included an app. that sits in the systray and lets you change the volume just by lefthold-click and righthold-click.. its called volumetray (google for it)

There was a complete tray icon pack of small black icons that was released here in the past year, just do a search on the icons section for "tray icons".

From there you can just use them in obbar by right clicking on the systray expander and selecting "customize icons..... " or by creating a new popup menu on the taskbar and using the icon as its notext title/placeholder. OR you can use msstyles(or windowblinds) and use the reshack method/custom icon method.

doesn't look like objectbar to me either. just a normal msstyles.

the icons are changed with resource hacker, as mentioned. get it here: http://www.users.on.net/~johnson/resourcehacker/

it's very easy to do. find the relevant file (typically an .exe or .dll file), open it up with reshacker, swap icons, save, and replace the file.

there can be problems sometimes, but when swapping systray icons, it's generally safe.

Guys thank you for some very helpful hints - you are absolutely right, I don't need any use of OB - just didn't know about the reshack method, which seems pretty cool

Am I correct that the MSSTYLES theme have no influence on the systray whatsoever? Well at least I don't see any change of changing the icons just by use of the theme - in other words the icon-swap in the systray could just as well be done with a standard LUNA interface, am I right?

exactly right. msstyles skin windows, taskbar (including the systray itself), start menu. the systray icons are completely separate. if you want to change the icons, you'll need to reshack. make sure you backup the file first, just in case.

also, if you want to use msstyles, i recommend using the uxtheme patch. why pay for stylexp when the patch is free?

Håber du fandt ud af det du søgte efter.

De ikoner der er henne ved uret, i process baren, er bare ikoner for programmer som folk har kørende. Grunden til at de ligner Mac ikoner, er fordi folk har "hacket" de programmer de bruger, og erstattet programmets ikoner, med nogle der ligner dem fra Macs.

Du kan bare bruge msstyle themes, og stadig have en process bar ligesom på de screenshots du har linket til. Du behøver ikke at have OB installeret.

pls don't close this thread yet :canadian: s1000 has brought up exactly what has been in my mind since i decided to go for the Tiger look.

The easy way out might be ObjectBar, which i've tried and prefer not to keep it, because it's hogging too much of my resources, although i do have a gig of ram, still i like to keep the fans down, so no ObjectBar, furthermore, i sorely miss the taskbar features of the normal taskbar, i like the look of the finder bar simply just of keeping it faithful to the tiger look, but detest the functionality of it.

So my question which differs a bit from s1000, is: how can i achieve the "search bar" look on my Kol's Tiger WB4 skin taskbar, with the functionality of the search features of say either "google deskbar" or "Dave's Quick Search DeskBar" ? I've asked this in the thread tt s1000 refered to as well in the 1st post.

I'm surprised there's only so few ppl with the same desires of s1000, Orange (i think he started asking it 1st), and myself, which is,

1) to not use ObjectBar

2) yet still get that "systray" end of the taskbar looking exactly like a typical mac's finder bar

lot's of ppl have posted screenshots of what we wanted, but there really isn't any comprehensive tutorial/faq/guide on this matter, ie, just reshacking itself is really tedious and complex. i've tried following iceman's guide, which is the most comprehensive yet, but i failed to even change my "volume" systray icon, it just won't convert...i'm on the verge of giving up to ever get that Mac finder bar look on my normal taskbar....

someone pls help me, :cry:
