[help]video Card Installation

I got an Xtasy 128MB DDR-RAM PCI video card thingy at Circuit City.

I uninstalled the drivers for my onboard i810 graphics chip, Disabled onboard video, changed the graphics source to PIC, and dissconnected my computer from the power and all the periferals. Set the computer on he floor, opened it up and opened the box with the card in it. I didn't open the anti-static bag till i made sure i was grounded by touching the computer chasis. I opened the bag and care fully pulled out the card, I looked o make sure it did not need a power source and put pluged it into the PCI slot in my motherboard. I put the case back on and plugged my computer back in making sure to put the VGA connector in the new card.

I switched on the monitor and PC. when the PC started the monitor said somthing like "Check connectivity to the PC." I shut down and made sure the fasten ers were in securely on the VGA head. Powered up again and got the same "no signal" message.

I have to say, I read the manual to the letter... I am thinking this is a defective card... right now I am on the computer I am going to be upgradig with the card in question. I have emailed both HP and Visitek and out it and am awaiting a response. Can some one please comment to tell me if I did somthing wrong?

well idk what youve done wrong. Often theres a problem with using a PCI card with onbaord video, because basicaly the onboard vidoe is realy a PCI card itself intergrates onto the motherboard. With a cheap motherboard (ala HP) you cant use a PCI card, i know my old cheap mb you coulnt. Go and get an AGP card. Spending a few dollars more on a decent graphics card means all the world.

The motherboard actually does support one... It said in the manual.

sounds like you did everything correctly, and since it didn't work in another machine (i'm assuming you installed it correctly there as well), i'm guessing it's defective. take it back and get another one.

Looks like a defective card. Go take it back and get an ATI Radeon.

have you gone through the bios on the board? I'm pretty sure that HPs have an onboard bios that you can get into. if you can change the bios settings then i'm sure it'll work okay.

if anything install the board and plug your monitor into the hp VGA port, from there within windows see if your HP motherboard detects the new vidcard and your windows asks for the CD then you'd have to change the settings within windows (of course if you can't get into the bios). I'm pretty sure that if the HP computer does support the PCI video card then it should be okay to set it up within windows itself.

Result: Defective card.... I took the card back today and installed a replacement.

After I found out I could move windows and watch a 30 fps movie with out any laging I was over joyed!

Thank you all so much! You all gave me more support and opinions than HP and Visiontek did the whole time. Thank you very much, from the depth of my heart I gotta say this community is the best one ever...
