Object Dock (1. Version) 'genie' Effect

Do you remember the very first version of objectdock (probably years ago).

It had a 'genie effect' *implemented* in the prg.

Anybody knows what happend to the routine? Or a contact to the programmer to reintegrate this early effect in some unofficial beta?

Or has someone a stand-alone 'genie'-prog? i remember some early steps towards by someone this a year or so ago (C++ I think, and another visual basic[?!])

There is one for WindowFX it is on the wincustomize site and it is called genie in the windowfx section its not bad. :D

I don't like the windowfx version for two reasons. one, i hate windowfx. two, the genie effect made for it can only go down to the center, it can't go down to differen't points.

I Know the Stardock effect....

Thats why i asked the question :)

(Doesn't anybody remember the effect that was *part* of the first (unofficial) *ObjektDock* release?

#187639

I remember it. I don't think they will be adding it back since Apple will probably shut them down if they do. They're trying to add features that make ObjectDock unlike the Mac dock.

is object dock still being updated? been awhile hasnt it? or have i just lost touch.

bah... shame i never copyrighted the concept of fanning-out folders. DoubleD, did you ever do that? lol

#187840

@menge

copyright exists in a piece of work from the moment it is created. it isn't like patents and such that need registering to be valid, copyrights exist without any formal declaration therefore you have a copyright over orbit.

however, from what I remember didn't someone else come up with the idea in this very forum which you then kindly implemented?

yes. DoubleD (known in the AquaXP forums as Scoobydd) came up with that idea and i implemented (that's why i mentioned him in my post).

but what's pissing me off about this is not the fact that he's implementing that. but the fact that he is:

1) implementing it without consulting (or even commenting)

2) claiming it's his "new" idea (when in fact its DoubleD's!)

3) charging for such concept. which i find ridiculous.

if jeff ever reads this, i'm sorry man, but been there and done that : Orbit Homepage

i think you should reconsider calling it both "new" and "yours". give credit to the original owner of the idea: DoubleD

i'm going to try to get in touch with him about it.

Here is the original post I made....

fanning folders

Fanning folders MK2

As my good friend Menge says - the idea has been done and has been available free for a long time now. Granted the docks are different but the fanning folders is the same.

beric: Who is the author of that Genie effect in C++ ?

#188726

wow it realy is the geni effect. Amazing. I would def switch to OD if it had this.

#188735

dude, thats amazing, WHY did they discontinue that. i think everyone would be useing objectbar of yz. if it could still do that.

i wonder if u can hack it so u can put reall shortcuts on it, instead of test items.

#188754

Was it Cycopath or Jef? Hmm been so long since I've seen that

#188757

Thank you!

Thats definetly what i meant...

And it was/IS simply GREAT!

So next thing to do ... is to make it better/include it in a dock or as standalone

or put the old OD-Effect in a new OD/

or make a plug-in for Y'S/Aquadock

;)

Anybody?
