Modding Windows 95

Hey, :) I know all of you are gonna laugh but have you ever had a shot

at modding windows 95 ? Seriously. It's the most cool little OS to mod. :D

I can get it looking like The newsest version of Longhorn 1:1.

(Yes, the logon screen to). As soon as I install it and mod it I'll put a bunch

of screenies up.

Windows 95 like all other 9x OS' don't have XP style login screens, or 32-bit icons or alpha blending. While you can reshack your system files with non alpha blended icons and use some skinning software but it won't work as well as with later OS'. I've modded all 9x versions of Windows with icons, litestep and WB, which was nice but still. That's my opinion.

the only thing I tried on my Windows 95 computer was Litestep, installed it wrong, and lost everything. The only other thing I done was themes for it, and they weren't too great. I would be interested in seeing it/seeing how you done it.

I can make it have a logon screen Identical to that of XP. Only limitations

are that you can't have a working password and it will only run properly in

one resolution. Believe it or not. About the alpha blending, I'm afraid your right.

But non-apha blended XP Icons Don't look so bad at all. You can hardly tell

the difference. :)

You could have just hit F8 at startup pick boot into dos and used edit to edit system.ini (or win.ini) in the windows folder and set shell back to explorer and fixed that problem without losing everything. I'll see if I can dig up some of my old 9x shots I don't use 9x anymore.

Ok here is just one example of my 9x desktops: Flashback to one of my old pre-aquasoft pre-XP desktops.

too bad I was like 12 at the time I installed it... I used 95 as my primary OS up until about September of last year... <_< I didn't know what to do then...

12 ? How old are you now ? :D Me 14. (That doesn't mean that I'm dumber than you  :D)

16 actually. I used '95 until not even a year ago yet... (A computer was not very high on my family's upgrade list) And of course, after seeing some of your ideas and your website, I would never assume you were dumb. :P

heh, cheers, I would love to get into skinning and everything, and help out the community, but as of right now, I know absolutely no coding, no 3d editing/animation, or anything, so as of right now, might try to start out just making wallpapers...

Wallpapers are fun :) I'm not much good at them myself

(I hate photoshop, every single peace of work I ever made,

was made completely in paint, no seriously). :D

You do a pretty good job considering, back when I was in High School I used to design t-shirts in Paint before I got a class in Photoshop. The cool thing was that my shirt got picked again the next year over someone who made their shirt in photoshop so it's not always the tool that makes an artist good.
