Animosity And The Ever Changing Aqua-soft

well it has dawned on me that there is a lot of animosity on this forum. it really needs to stop, and the mods/admins are busy doing other jobs.

simply put, aqua-soft is turning into a place where the people that have been here for 4 years are domineering over not just the more recent members, but also older members as well!

It's bad when the forum degenerates into people asking to compare their Dock sizes.  I'd personally would ask a woman to give her view on my dock, let her play with it a bit and see if she prefers it big or small.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

how is that appropriate for the forum, and how does taht constitute what a good member should do? this was posted in response to a news poster, someone of status here, posting about the size of his dock (a legit question...i thought of it too when i made mine). i think that rules should be set in place so that membesr do not simply bash each other.

lets seriously make this a forum where we are inviting to each other.

oh yeah, and aquasoft always changes. you cant expect it to be the same always. the older members need to accept that odler members leave and new ones come AND that newer members must abide by the rules. it hsould be necessary that they read them and be forced to.

I disagree ever so slightly, noefexx, but only on one minor point:

It's not just the old members that're behaving this way.

It seems to me that, in the last couple of weeks, many of the members whom I respected here at Aqua-Soft have become very critical of others.

I don't know, maybe it's because I've become an admin, or something, and people just wanna make me feel that all of Aqua-Soft is rebelling against the changes that I led in.

Maybe it's just that members are bored of customising, so they have to turn to *****ing instead.

Over the last few days, I can, quite frankly, see why Tim despairs of Aqua-Soft from time to time.

We are supposed to be a community.

Who here remembers what that means? I do - when I first became a member of Aqua-Soft, people tried to help people. It was rare that you'd find posts commenting on the pointlessness of topics, or how stupid people were, or how annoying people were. Yes, I'm sure they existed, but they weren't an almost hourly occurence like they have been of late. That's also not to say that the off-topic posts weren't there. If anything, they were more rife, I think - people were more passionate about emulation, and so integrated their every-day lives into their passion.

It was this level of closeness and openness that drew me into Aqua-Soft. It was this that led me to pour months of effort into developing a Windows Media Player skin to clone iTunes. It was this that led me to become a moderator, and, quite frankly, work my arse off to help keep this place clean. It was this that made me want to become an Admin, and propose and devise the new rules and forum structures.

It seems, though, that as my contributions to the community increased with time, the level of community spirit has decreased.

I want Aqua-Soft to be great. I positively adore coming onto Aqua-Soft every day, even now, when I come online to find that people are *****ing at one another, and whinging about how so-and-so hasn't done such-and-such. It's behaviour like this, however, that makes me tire of the so-called "community" here at Aqua-Soft.

We have some of the most talented developers on the internet as members here - Ave, Siwu, Alilm, Judge, ThePowderRanger, Tig4, and many, many more (sorry to all those whose names I missed, but you're all superb) - as well as many talented artists (whom I'm not even going to start to name, because I know too little about art to comment). We used to be drawn closer, as a community, by these people, and by the staff. It seems that, as time has worn on, people have become less interested in what they can do for the community, and more interested in what they can get from the community.

I long for the day that all of Aqua-Soft's members won't have to worry about what they post, fearing that they'll get jumped on by those members who don't see the point behind their topic, or by those members who don't agree with them.

Aqua-Soft should be a happy place. Aqua-Soft was a happy place.

Let's make it better.

:claps:

I woudl say anything else, but you have said it all Stevie. I too am getting fed up by some of the members whinging. You know that.

I feel I have to comment as its my post that seems out of all that has happened in this forum to be one to be used as an example.

Firstly its been completely taken out of context. I was joining in with the general mood of the posts and was making a joke!

If you view the posts above AND below you will see that no offence was taken and understood my humour.

I was not bashing anyone at all - and by Kurt871 whos post it was even played along with the whole subtext of the thread.

So how about we all sit back take a chill pill.

I read your post, DoubleD, and I recognise that, but that doesn't make what I said any less valid, or less true - the atmosphere around here has been awful, of late.

Thanks for your words Steve.

This is by far the best community I have been fortunate to be a part of.

I hope to be the best member i can be, always polite, always courteous, always helpful...I just wish that more people can understand your message. :D

to tell you the truth, stevie is EXACTLY right. thats sorta what i meant about newer members not reading the rules, but you said everything. we need to enact changes such that new members have a more rigorous process to enter the A-S community.

i feel like the COMMUNITY is breaking apart...ppl have been PMing me to stay clear of certain people whom iw ill not mention because of their attitudes...i dont feel like thats right. we shouldnt have to stay clear of certain people...we hsould feel safe.

neways, we can all tell how we feel but the point has been made...so instead of 30 people telling how they feel and debating it....STEVIE!!!! what ya do with this thread now is ur call

#185646

You know what causes the community to break apart? Threads like this. Sometimes there are valid complaints with the community/rules/people, but they're rare.

I said this 6 months ago, and I'll say it again. The community went from people who post about AQUA to people who post about the community's problems.

Every few months people try to rebel and give their own spin on the rules. DZ could discuss this better, and he's seen (and participated) in every one.

Here's what everyone needs to do: Stop focusing on all these little rants about how to make the community better and just continue doing what this community is about.

We've had about 5 threads on "the degrading community" in the last two weeks, we dont need another one.

Steve just needs a nap.
