im not too sure what the question is exactly asking...but to answer the question in the title, i use my school's network, it blocks Kazaa (lite) and i found a way around it last semster, but it doesnt seem to work anymore
at home we have dialup, but my parents are talking of cable (yea, ofcourse after i move to college...)
56k at the moment.

T1 may be expensive, but it is soooo fast!!! That is what I am using right now and couldn't be happier.

it's 1.5444 mbit upload is nice
but the 1.5444 mbit download is just crap
most people's cable is better than that
I'm on a University network which is pretty damn fast.
Also means i can download movies off other students at 10/11 MBytes/second 
I use the dutch @HOME broadband cable network. pretty fast. costs me 44 euros/dollars a month. it's cool.
I use FrontierNet ADSL. I run it though a really nice D-Link router. This may sound strange but my net is faster through the router than when I have only the modem hooked directly to my comp! I use to have Satellite Internet, you know, that DirecWay crap. That is THE WORST internet, I have ever used in my life. I had SOOO many problems with it that you wouldnt believe. Its basically Always On Dial-Up, maybe a couple K's faster. THATS IT. And dont even THINK about uploading anything! Online games with DirecWay! HA! If you like ping times of over 2000ms then go for it!

i think ur transfering using lan or wan
anyway i have cable with cox communications
my d/l is 3mbit, so usually 300kbps download
and up is 300kbit so its 300kbps
WOO! Dialup! I get a pathetic 52kbits. I feel so slow. My brain only moves at 28.8K though. 
cable is the way to go baby i fell in love ever since my first 260KB a second download. 
I won't be able to get broadband until I move which is not soon enough, =Þ
I get 5K a sec and because of it, ive learned to READ! Honest to god, I Have to read to stay entertained!

I have that nice 24/7 broadband from which I average between 9-20GB in downloads per month, good job I have tons of drive space

wow, i feel for you... that must be horid, are you planing to switch over to higher speeds in the near future? it's good that you learned to read I dont think I could take the slowness of that, I'm a very impatient person.
btw, I have DSL... 
Pretty simple, RoadRunner Cable. Just tested at 2076 kbps Down and 368 kbps Up.

2076kbit = 259.5kbyte
368kbit = 46kbyte

I dont plan on getting High speed anytime soon. Im still in school, so im pretty broke. I have to choose between heat and eating every week.
I have a 4 Mb wireless connection and I have discover "isntant loading" concept. It is very cosy because the only thing I need is a USB external card with a little aerial.
