[request] Your Opinions Are Requested

Ahoy hoy everyone. I have a simple preference request for you today. I'm torn between two different iterations of my dock. One is big, with lots of pretty icons. The other is small, simple, and uncluttered. Lemme run through the pictures w/ pros and cons:

Big Dock

Pros:

- Lots of pretty Apple icons to look at

- Has more applications (although some that I rarely use)

Cons:

- Small, hard to see

- Cluttered with some rarely used programs

Small Dock

Pros:

- Larger, easier to see

- Simple with only programs I most frequently use

Cons:

- Fewer gorgeous Apple icons (I gotta tell ya, in all the time I've been modding Windows, the Apple icons are my favorite part :))

- Fewer applications that I might at one point use

So, which do you all prefer?

[edit] Sorry, thought they'd be small enough, but I guess not. Won't happen again [/edit]

i prefer the small dock , look at mine in the desks sections , i have only the icons what i use frequently , otherwise , i use startmenu.

BTW : your img's are too big ;)

it all depends on whether u want more function or to be visually pleasing. i have the same problem. my dock is so big, it goes from one side of the screen to the other. but i use every link in my dock at least once a day.

i could just shrink it down, but it dosn't look as good.

#185552

I`d use the "Small" one!!

#185554

The big dock is better ;)

btw..everything is backwards! what you listed as big dock is small and vice versa...NEWAYS

use the big dock. IMO, its much better. do you want functionality or look? and if you dont like everything thats in the big dock, replace it withs tuff u use. but its better if its actually useful and you dont ahve to click on the start menu every time u wanna use something.

to make it easier, use object dock. follow these steps to the perfect dock:

example...i have adobe photoshop, imageready, and a bunch of adobe programs. i want them on my dock but they take up space.

1) download kkmenu for objectdock.

2) find an icon online to represent "art & design".

3) employ the icon as a KKmenu. THEN put all the adobe programs in KK menu.

voila! use the dock at your whim and its much smalle rbut retains functionality. do the same for microsoft word/excel/outlook if you use those. for outlook, i also employ kkmenu to "read mail" among other things.

so yes, after i have said it all, just download kkmenu. of course, you are a news poster, you probably know where it is!

I've been told that my dock is huge.

#185587

i thought size didn't matter

Personally mine is large. I like really small icons with a large resolution, so I can fit alot of icons in it. I use it alot for everything.

looks like most people prefer big docks (no pun intended ;))

thanks for the comments, guys. feel free to leave more.

lol, noefexx, i totally forgot about KKMenu. I use it on my dock already. D'oh! Using it, i have fixed the conundrum:

Click me to see the (not so) ingenius solution

:D isnt that better now? yep...its a GREAT thing that is. makes objectdock more likeable to me than the other docks. i wish kkmenu could be ported to moby and yz.

@noefexx, big dock = lots of icons, small dock = small amount of icons

he didn't mean big meaning the SIZE but the QUANITY hehe

I like a small dock, with few icons. maybe 12 at most i think. with the icons pretty large. no magnification either.

You can use KKMenu with YzDock. That's what I use, and it's what's in the screenshots.

I prefer a tiny dock, just the few applications you absolutely need in there and with it set to 24x24 unmagnified. ;)

#185855

I like to keep the number of icons as low as possible... around 10-12, at 48x48.

Mobydock also shows running apps, which make your dock much longer.

My 15" LCD monitor can only have a max resolution of 1024 x 768, so I keep my dock small for more space. I use ObjectDock, and have it at 24 pixels, with magnification at 128 pixels. :)

Use ObDock+ and have as many dock as you need (+ you will have an option to have tabbed docks, which are very handy). PM me if you want ... ;)

Right now I'm using OD+ for a majority of my applications. However for the most important and the trash and tasks I use a regular dock (mobydock becuase I like it's mag effect better and ignore task if it's in dock feature) which I have right now 6 icons in there at 32x32 when small.

kkmenu doesn't need to be "ported" ... it's already an executable with .ini files and can be linked to icons in ANY dock ... i use it with y'z perfectly...
