Im Sick Of Trolling

guys and gals, there's been a lot of trolling going on here at A-S lately. i was talkin to Stevie a lil bit about it, and he knows its there. my solution...instead of trolling and telling someone how and what they shoudl post, PM a mod or use the report button. ive been using it where applicable. a certain few people would make VERY good mods but arent mods. they act like it though. why not apply for the position?

its illegal to impersonate a policeman. i think the same should apply here. instead, we should all just use the report button a bit more.

I'm sick of spamming...;)*hint hint*

It's not the number of posts that bothers me, but the type of posts...sort of...if you catch my drift.

On the old boards, the report buttons was disabled because people abused it.

I think you're getting ideas above your station. Pipe down.

you know the end is near when a spammer starts talking about trolling -_-

Are you reffering to yourself when you say people act like mods ;)

wouldn't this be trolling? you just told us what to do and what not to do. i know i got a pm from you about me doing this. the problem is a certain group of people here CARE about this forum and where it goes and that it should remain clean. I do. Again, as noted above, you have taken a role of a spammer. So please, RESPECT those before you, and understand that there are people of all walks of life here, and if you don't like them, as my mother says "simply walk away and ignore." you DON'T have to be here. you DON'T have to expect us all to be nice or cheerful. and in response to your analogy:

a policeman is paid. our mods are not.

please, could you let me know how i am spamming? i asked stevie how i had been spamming in the past few days and show me one post that didnt have some point to it and was unable to add to the forum in any way. i only post when i feel like it can help someone, even one person. it might not help you, but it might help others. neways, could you show me a post that you consider unnecessary and consider spam? you might notice that although i do have one line posts every so often that are like "what drivers do you use?" (in reference to a guy having performance issues with his nvidia card...i then recommended him 3rd party omega drivers which were formally recognized by ATI as an excellent alternative to catalyst) but do not say "thanks!" or "great release!".

i may post in volume, but each post contains something useful, whether it be a good question or some informative material. i shouldnt be punished for posting a lot of quality posts. it is a forum after all, if people wanted to post they would. they just odnt feel like it, and i do.

so please, show me how i am spamming. i am not provoking you so dont take this in the wrong way, i seriously want to know!!! :D

Well, it looks like spamming if you open A-S board in your browser, hit the new-posts button and sees every last post was made by "noefexx", some of them unrelated to the topic. For example, I have seen numerous post saying "I use sysmetrix, you should too" from you some days ago. That is going to work on peoples nerves...

http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/index.php?s...1&st=&p=entry

Those are just two examples of THREADS you have started. I don't care to go into all of your posts to find all of those.

// Lou

[edit] and by making this thread, you kind of just set yourself in a trap for this. do you realize that? just by asking what you've done, you've dug yourself into a hole that you won't get out of. [/edit]

#184800

Alright, we can work on this. >.<

I think the main problem is being redundant, or repeating what other people have already said in some form. (e.g. http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/index.php?a...ndpost&p=204807, http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/index.php?a...ndpost&p=204804, I could find more, but I won't)

If respect is what you want (I think you mentioned that?), start with the grammer/speling. :P

edit: Oh, and polls suck.

PS: I have oficially exceeded my post quota for the day.

#184801

And then there's the offtopic stuff-- I tried to break up a fight between Stevie and TheBigB about Administration on a topic about Microsoft Visual Studio; later I found my post removed. <_

#184802

You all need to hush up :6 I need to turn that button off to because it spams our inbox :(

As has been said, this could very much be considered a case of the pot calling the kettle black, noefexx. You come across as a spammer, even if your intentions are good. Some of the trolling may or may not be trolling.

You do, however, make a good point... Rather than posting in a thread to whinge about the last post, either click the "report post" button, or PM a member (or a few members) of the forum staff.

This applies to any post, by anyone. Don't take things up in public.

Also, I, like many others, am getting sick of people trying to act like staff. We know our jobs, and are good at them. If you feel the need to help us, do what I just said - report things to us. Otherwise, we will have to search the forums for what you've found. Posting in the topic about how a tag is wrong, or how a member shouldn't have posted in a particular section, or whatever will not acheive anything, save for making people read extraneous information. Don't do it.

#184815

[contra post] u guys need to get off your computers and go outside. its just a website.[/contra post]

seriously though. lets all stop picking on neofexx, he might have a lot more time on his hands then some of us. wich is why his presence is felt in almost all the active threads.

i think as long as its constructive and polite trolling its ok., :lol:BUT if u go back in this very area, u will see i started a thread about how people should stop with the trolling, basicly makeing the same point stieve just made about the extra crap we dont need to read. so its really up to the staff on whats acceptable.

look at our member numbers. some might not think they mean much, but look at them. you are at 13,000. most in this thread are 5,000 and below. hush hush.

Member numbers, much as people would like to think otherwise, mean very little.

Take me - I'm somewhere between 1000-1500, I think, but I'm an admin.

Also, just because he's new, doesn't make his opinion any less valid.

no you're right, it doesn't make it less valid, however...!

the way i see it, noeffex is seeing some of us and judging us on the most recent posts of us that he has seen. he hasn't seen the past. he doens't know how we all are/were. i think that is something that makes a n00b a n00b. they don't understand and assume, a lot. again, this is my opinion.

[edit] im done as well, im not going to mess with this. ive already spoken with the admins. [/edit]

about policemen having authority and getting paid...ur missing the point. to me, the mods/admins are regarded as policemen with supreme authority over this whole thing. and hey, they seem to be doing an awesome job at it. stevie puts a lot of time into it, timan is..well..timan. those are just a few examples.

neways, i just feel like theres a bit of trolling going on and people feeling like just because they have been here they have more power over relative newcomers.

look at our member numbers. some might not think they mean much, but look at them. you are at 13,000. most in this thread are 5,000 and below. hush hush.

is that really necessary? that means nothing. Keith is #6898 and Ludge is #1615. it doesnt mean anything. Ludge isnt 6 times better. they are the same, MEMBERS of a forum meant to share thoughts and ideas. if some feel the need to share their ideas more often, then let them, just as long as those ideas are constructive to at least one person reading that forum. that is how i felt i have been acting. and yes, i have quelled my redundancy. i did notice that, and i dont post "thank you!" or "awesome release!" nemore.

noeffex is seeing some of us and judging us on the most recent posts of us that he has seen. he hasn't seen the past. he doens't know how we all are/were. i think that is something that makes a n00b a n00b. they don't understand and assume, a lot. again, this is my opinion.

//Lou

now is that necessary? the word ****...its not very inviting. is this an open forum or a place where people who met 4 years ago can talk and no one else can enter and become an equal (im not fighting for civil rights lol)? i regard lou as a dedicated member of this forum just as much as many others.

however, the fact that i want to add to this forum a bit more...well...maybe we should all start talking more. i jsut have a bit of time on my hands as i play violin at a restaurant and read an O-chem book all summer long until college starts back up.

if you are saying i should stop posting in general, whether meaningful or not, well...i actually feel afraid to post now because of all this. i want to ask about shuttle computers, specific questiosn about them that i want open to the public to read and not PMed privately, but i feel like ill get raped in doing so. i still havent seen an example of a pointless post ive made in the past 5 days.

the trucks topic and the GTA 4 topic were in the general discussion forum...an OFFTOPIC forum. of course they are offtopic! and interesting! i am heavily into trucks and feel like posting in a truck forum brings out all the partisan people (the fanboys). here there wont be as many, but iwth as many members as there are, theres got to be a few with an opinion. and about the GTA one, well...many of you game. i bet a lot of you own a PS2 and would be interested to know a few things about the new one. can you deny it? please show me how being off topic in an offtopic forum is bad. i did not post 20 offtopic topics in a row...just a few that seemed really really interesting.

you might ask, why do i suddenly get the courage to write all this? i was told i'll be banned for what ive done 3 days out of the past four. what have i done wrong? post in volume? they have beeen good posts. in the past four days, i still need to see something i have posted that wasnt a good post. i can explain every one. this is a rhetorical question, so please, lets not go on about every single post. if you feel like doing so, PM me. but i dont understand. SPAM is only considered spam if it is pointless. every post i have made has been meaningful (i have said that i know, but i want to make a point). so am i right or wrong?

#184827

Lets sum up the Administration's position (OK, my position, but Im closing the thread, so :6):

- If someone posts an obvious troll or spam ("Macs Sux0r!!!!111") then do not respond at all, and PM a member of the staff.

- if someone posts a redundant question ("How do I skin my computer like a mac"), point them in the right direction, and nicely ask them to search the forum.

- if someone is breaking a rule in another way (inappropriate signatures are popular) then please PM a mod, and if you want, PM the member and point them to the appropriate rules. Do not post publically.

- if a Mod does something you disagree with, talk to the mod privately. That's why I added my email address to my sig. If you disagree with my actions against you, we can discuss it. Unfortunately, Im usually right.

- Dont obsess too much about this. These problems aren't mistakes with a forum or the internet so much as they are problems in society. I dont think Society is changing anytime soon, so the "problems" will not go away. Just try to clean up your own behavior. That's all you can ever do.

Below is my previous rant reproduced. I dont feel like repeating myself:

Aquasoft was much better (IMO) in it's earlier days (the ones I was a part of at least). But just because many of our most honored members left, it doesn't mean we can't bring Aqua-soft back to its former glory. The actual content creation didn't make aqua-soft special, it was the community, and the respect that everyone had for retaining some order in the forum.

How to make A-S a better community: Follow the rules. Really. The new rules are nice. Don't post pointless things. Sure, it's OK to be offtopic, but remember, 20,000 members being offtopic "every once in a while" causes the entire board to lose order. Never be offtopic outside of General Discussion. That is where people actually want help.

I'll tell you something Goku told me: Before you click that "Post" button, reread your message a couple of times, and give it a good 30 seconds of thought, is that message adding value to the community? It doesnt have to be some brilliant piece, but will it help SOMEONE? If it won't add even a little value, don't post it.

People don't want to read your inside jokes. Sure, a couple of people may laugh, but there are more than 10 people at this forum. We dont care about toads, or any other strange things you guys talk about.

The other major thing is: Dont flame. If someone posts something stupid (and it will always happen), and someone has already pointed out the mistake (hopefully nicely), there is no need to respond any further. Simply PM a mod.

We've all been rude, but try to keep it to a minimum. I dont know about everyone else, but I feel better when I help someone, rather than just letting off steam online.

I can't "beat" the rules into people. Sure I can edit and close threads (and suspend members), but there are too many people here for me to force any change. You guys have to take it upon yourselves . How? 1) follow the rules yourself. Be a kind, helpful, respectful, member who adds value to the forum. 2) yell at people who dont follow these rules (dont actually yell). If you see someone flaming (especially to new members), feel free to PM or post about how we dont encourage that kind of behavior in the forum (obviously dont flame or be cruel yourself).
