My Family Almost Died Tonight...

My wife and I just moved into a new house. Last week, after the move, my wife started getting bad migraine headaches. We wrote it off to the stress of moving.

This morning, I woke up very sick, puking, unable to sleep without waking up in spams. I wrote it off to some type of flu or food poisoning.

Tonight my wife and I walked into our house after being outside for an unusually long period of time...the house smelled strange, like a natural gas leak, but different. I called the local gas company, and the tech that came out immediatly recognized the smell for what it was - Carbon Monoxide.

He set up a detection meter at different areas around the house...at our oven it sounded an alarm in less than a second, showing levels of carbon monoxide at 354pts/ million. 250pts/ million is lethal.

Looks like the mix ratio of natural gas to o2 on the oven is improperly calibrated, causing the oven to spew carbon monoxide into the surrounding house, collecting inside, recycled over and over in the sealed HVAC system most modern homes have. He informed me that my sickness was my body trying to tell me I was being suffocated slowly, poisoned by Carbon Monoxide in my sleep.

The oven is shut off, doors and windows and fans are going strong to bring in fresh air, and the oven will be fixed tomorrow. I just wanted to share.

Yeah, it was kinda spooky. Im calling my alarm company and seeing if I can get a Carbon Monoxide detector installed in the next few days.

Thats a common misconception... Carbon Monoxide does have a slight oder to it, even though it is referred to as "the oderless killer".

Its also a common misconception that a duck has no echo. It does. All sounds make echos.

It's weird to think that CO is so close to CO2 but has such different affects, glad you and your family are ok dz... wouldn't want to lose a valuable member of this forum
