NICE - and usable! Great great great

Pretty much useless. But the application itself is as I have come to expect from your skills AndreasV. Runs fast and stable. Good work.

Ave I'd much rather have you waste your time on AveDesk 1.1 rather than coding useless apps like this. -_- or you can watch football instead. Looking forward to AveDesk 1.1. :)

Its true ;) this app is completely useless

#184711

I don't get it

Why is this app considered useless? We use iTunes to organize music, which was just as easily as organizable before with explorer.exe or finder. People generally tend to keep up/manage things better if there is an app that is encouraging them to do so.

Examples of other seemingly pointless organizing apps:

iTunes

iPhoto

Fontbook

Addressbook

iCal

All of these apps have given us reasons to use them because they make the organizing process much more simple and attractive. Given time, iconbook could turn out as great as these apps. All that needs to be done now is add more features :D

PS: The preview pane in my iconbook is broken, I moved it out of the way (hid it) and now it won't come back.

Nevermind I just fixed it -_-

#184734

The reason this app is the most pointless of all is because you can do exactly the same thing in explorer > thumbnails

well - i love it. really.

and, correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't you the one, who can make ist more useful, eh? ;)

I could do ;) If I thought it was worth it

Well right now this app has the same functionality as thumbnail view right, but, this is just the basis for what can be a full featured icon managing/converting application. Since Ave has already completed his awesome iconifier app, it could be built in to iconbook.

The next logical step would be to let iconbook import icons and png as libraries, this way we can keep our file structures the same on our computers. As mine and magbi's mockups show, an icon and png library seems appropriate, this making the converting process even more use friendly.

Implementing an icon creation utility seems pointless though, since most of us use photoshop or illustrator and just save as png. Perhaps an editing tool, for editing colors, brightness/contrast, etc would make more sence. I have no idea how easy/hard that'd be to code, but I think its a step in the right direction for this app.

See all those apps I was referring to are all essentially organization apps, but there are all sorts of little features that are added to them that make them worth while.

After spending a while with this fest version of iconbook, it only makes me want to see it's full potential realized. :D

Well... I love it  ur app made my day ave. I like eye-candy stuff. And dunno about the whole "it's useless" talk... cause I'm having a lot of fun with it. Thnx guys :D

#184876

Well... It is a good app although I think some of you are right that it is kind of useless.. It is nice to use but for example... I was trying to use it to copy some png's into my object dock folder but I really couldnt becuase I didnt want to move the icons just copy them. Inclusion of a right click menu on the icons for copying and pasting would make it very usable. Just my opinion of course. You can always use nexplorer for this sort of thing anyway. Keep up the good work everyone. I really like the way it looks anyway :)

edit...

also if it could read into sub folders from a main folder. That would be nice.

#184878

You can read into subfolders, just double click on the chosen directory. ;)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Of course.. but that is a hassle when trying to browse quickly.. it would be nice if it auto read into subfolders and displayed all icons in a current folder and its subfolders in the right hand pane... then double clicking would obvioulsy narrow it each time.

I think it's fine as is.

I dont see why everyone pulls Windows style enhancements out of their butts everytime a good app is made.

it's clean, has a small memory footprint, is easy to use, and skinnable.

Only reason I see to update it is to add AveIcon convertor, but that's IT.
