At The Apple Store With Pearpc

Right now, I am at the Apple Store with my laptop equipped with PearPC. I started it up, and my friend Dan, here, started saying, "Louie, everyone here is looking at you." I found it quite funny and asked, "Really?" I turned around, and there are four Apple Store employees checking out what I am doing. One was brave enough to come up. "So you are using Linux and booting this?" "Naw, I'm running Windows, running Macintosh on top." "Oh." He walked away. The next one comes up, "Why is it taking so long to boot?" "It's still Windows." "Oh." He walked away. I find this quite funny that the guys are all like huddled around talking about it. I told Dan, "I think they are saying, 'How is that possible?! He can't do that! He's running Windows!'" Well. I'm here on the real Mac. PowerMac G5, Dual 1.8. 20 inch Apple Display. I'm having some fun now, and Dan said that he'll be back later. He doesn't understand why I like Apple so much. He said, "When will they make an Orange Store?!"

Wow. That was fun.

You know, I was just about to ask which one. :P

You know, I hate to say it, but the guys who work at the Apple Store aren't there because they are computer geniuses. They're there because they can sell stuff. Two very different qualities.

Oh, I know. 'Cept that's part of it. They aren't computer geniuses, but I actually know two of them besides from the store. One of them is my friend's brother-in-law, and someone basically said that he should work there because he is an Apple guy, which he is. He has a G4 at home, and doesn't let anyone else touch it, haha. So yea, not all of them are geniuses, and all of them arent there just because they can sell stuff. I also heard a family whisper, "ut it's too expensive. Look at the G5, about two thousand dollars!" I was laughing, haha.

and people at Best Buy. I was there once with my friend Tony. I don't remember what we were looking for, but we knew they had it. And they were like "no, we don't carry that anymore." Tony said, "Bull****." after we left the area, and said, "It was there on the shelf next to him." Some guys just need to say "I don't know" when they really don't know.

Probably something like this:  -or this:  .

#182399

Hmm..does that clockfix version help the speed at all? I was resisting from installing OSX because I figured it would be useless.

#182405

they are normal people working retail. for example...best buy...i wanted to buy a network hard drive (i wanted to check out their prices) and they were like "ummm u cant do that. we only sell externals that hook up to your computer" when there was one network hard drive RIGHT THERE that said you could hook it up via ethernet jack on the hard drive itself! i was mad.

Orange store's already exist because of the Orange phone company in the UK and Australia.

Pear stores, well there is an idea. Sell PearPC pre-installed on Linux boxes (low-price) with Mac OS X.

#187396

LOL  Did you do that on purpose Lou?

Yes I know =) It would not be easy to try to take that name from them hehe ;) so Pear would be a great name, but I wonder what apple should say about it...

BTW PearPC is not half as fast as it is on a mac or is it? I have not tested my self but that's what I have heard.

that is too cool. making people uncomfortable is fun. :P

I did the same thing with my laptop. I bought a brand new spanking Acer Ferrari The first thing I did was aquafy the WinXP install. Thanks a lot Aquasoft. 6.gif . When my roomie saw it for the first time, even he was terribly confused as to how I got Mac OS X into a Windows XP. It took a lot of explaining and showing him the actual kernel32.exe file did he beleive me.

We then went to the local Apple store to see how it would compare next to a Powerbook or iMac. This was done innocently enough. I had no idea I would cause so much commotion there. We made a beeline to the nearest table containing the Powerbooks and took my laptop out of the cover. Immediately the sales associate nearby started looking at us. I also did the mistake of booting up the laptop from scratch.

Now this laptop by default startup sound of a Ferrari Formula One car going flying by with a vroooom sound which is quite loud . That sure got the attention of everyone. By now we have a group of people hudling around us. And then came the login screen. Now the small group of sales associates are wondering how the heck I am running Mac OS X. I also had removed the Win XP logo from the comp. And there is a large AMD sticker near the keyboard. After the login, came the Virtual OS Boot Loader which made things even more confusing. We now have people coming from the Genius Bar to check out this stuff. I had made the dockbar and the finder bar to look excatly like Jaguar. And the manager also shows up to see what the hell all this noise is about.

So there I was, in the middle of the Apple store, convincing people that I had not yet made a miracle of running OS X in a AMD machine. And then I had spend another hour explaining to the geeks at the Genius Bar on how exactly I did it. Aqua-soft, you surely got a lot of publicity that day. It took me nearly 3 hrs to get out of there and am pretty sure I held the store attention for a good 2 hrs.

Maybe I should ask Acer to get a % of sales of the Ferrari laptops.

#187504

hehehe, that's a funny story....did you use the vneuman's finder clone?

#187517

...and thats the reason AquaSoft was started! Damn fine job! :D

#187519

i`m not sure if that was a good idea

#187522
