You know what ?

My customization was successful. So successful that even my Mac users friends were fooled... "oooh ! you have Mac Os on your Vaio !! How did you achieve that ? Even Safari ? Ohhh... cool... "

Everything. I had everything. The Objectdock on top of all.

It was so beautiful that it had almost become a Mac... and suddenly, I remembered... I remembered the incredible fast and easy use of the Windows taskbar, the laser-speed switchings between opened applications..., etc. etc.

Suddenly, I remembered that even if it was sooooo beautiful - really it is - there actually WAS A REASON why only approx. 3 % of the computer users were using Apple OS... Maybe our Windows is not beautiful - yep - maybe it's not sexy - alright - maybe there's nobody to make us applaude with tears when a new version of WMP is issued - S.Jobs does, in his keynotes, for almost everything, just like in any cult - maybe the icons were crappy compared to the incredibly well designed appearance of the Apple's ones... ok... but, ya know what... customization had made a Mac out of my PC, and finally... it was SO GOOD to stop it all... F**k... No more going to the "Finder bar" to find any hidden opened window... :-)))

Well... almost all. I kept the modified icons, and YZ'stoolbar. That's all.

You know what ? My pc is so fast ! :-)))

Dude,.. you could have just saved the theme, and stopped the startup proggies.

All that leaves is the icons,.. which you say you liked anyway.

Switching back and forth for me takes like 15 seconds.

Lol, you realize you could just give up the Finder Bar and leave it at that right? That's all I do. I use system files I moddified myself, Y'z Dock, and Y'z Shadow and that's Mac enough for me. I don't care for the Finder all that much especially when it's ObjectBar. While being a great program and all, it crashes programs for me like HP ScanJet PrecisionPro software, MyNapster (www.mynapster.com), ShareScan and stuff like that. If it were actually another shell then maybe it would be a different story.

There's another reason only 3% of people use a Mac. Incredibly high prices, not found in retail chains (Best Buy, Circuit City), and lack of decent advertising. They have pretty commercials, but they don't actually show what their OS can do that Windows can't, or for that matter what it can do better than Windows.

But oh well, as long as you're happy then so be it.

I used to try to achieve mac appearence a while ago. Im now into general skinning, whar remains of "copying" of OS X in my computer, is the dock, and some few icons. Im just changing icons, thats where I spend my time. I barely use themes, just when I get bored of the windows normal appearance. I think that my computer runs faster, and with just the stuff that I really need. And lately i dont use the dock, I think i get tired or bored of it. I just need some time to get bored again of windows gui, and return to skinning.

I'm sorta like that... I use OD, but I don't make it maximize, I use a brushed ichat skin on trillian, and a regular skin for the rest of my win apps. I like the origional OSX Aqua Blue wallpaper and the icons, but I don't use any of the other progs. So it's sorta psuedo os. It's a nice mix of the two.

yea, i like the dock cuz its convinient (spelling?), but i use a different window blinds skin (i use to use an OSX skin but got tired of it) and i use a variety of backgrounds (and only one from a mac, which happens to be what im using now)

let me explain me better.

Im not into windows themeing, I dont usually use the msstyles and that stuff. I used some OS X themes only by some days, I actually got bored of them, I mean they are good tries, but they might not match the real os, some scrolls and a menu bg wont do the job for me. However thats not the main reason. I get to be bored very easy with the gui. First I used themes, then i quitted themes and turned to icons, then dock, then icons again, and right now I just have some few themes and icons, I dont really use the dock right now, I got tired of it, I dont know why. I basically move around when I get bored of a gui, thats the reason why some people finds my desktop boring with no themes etc.

I think I'm hitting that stage. Every since I found Aqua Soft all I have been doing is spending my time making WinXP look pretty and now I realize I have not done anything else I enjoy for like 4 months now.

No writing music, no readiing, no experiementing, no designing and I feel empty inside...Arrrrghhhhhhh!

I've gotten my WinXP install to as close as I am ever going to get it without using ObjectBar and WindowBlinds. I'm sorry, but I just don't like those programs.

Anyway, I think it's time I stopped trying to keep pace with new OSX themes and do some other things I enjoy before I go brain dead

That is a funny post. It is all about balance. Some find the MacOS interface nice, others are blindly fanatical about it. The same goes for WindowsOS (although not too many fanatics there due to the interface looks). It's O.K. to modify your Windows' GUI but to fanatically dot every i and look with a magnifying glass every pixel it's a little bit beyond sanity. Don't need to dump all of the modifications just as you don't need to modify all of the Windows interface. Balance brings the most lasting happiness.

I think not much people make only OS X skinning, im sure most make other type of skinning too. Im getting tired and bored of some looks that doesnt really belong to my OS, I like OS X interface and feel, but it wont be matched easily by adding some themes. Im sticking with my windows look lately, I just switch icons and thats all, thats the only thing i keep doing, and thats what I enjoy. I dont really use more than 2 days those applications like Desktop X, which enhance the desktop look and feel, i get bored very quickly and they eat my resources, plus they make slower my computer as most skinning stuff does, thats also why Im slowing down the skinning on my pc.

For a sec I thought this was a "I switched to Mac but am switching back to PC" thread.. heh

I actually have noticed in the past that I had spent more time customising my computer than actually using it. That is one reason why I gave up shells (such as litestep). I found that I was spending tons of hours coding up scripting and such for basic things such as changing a skin of a desktop object or whether it's shown or hidden and saving those settings.

I used to change my theme on a daily basis. And make a new theme almost everyday (over the past 3-4 years). I'm happy with these OSX style themes but I mostly use third party ones as opposed to Aqua. They are actually simpler than that I used to use. I also don't want to go insane with doing things such as making bitmap entries for objectbar. I just want to keep things as simple as I can without going skinless.

That's something I don't want to do, (go skinless that is). but I am slowing down on frequency of new themes that I work on. Cause I actually want to use my computer and enjoy a theme I have made and tweak it here and there rather than always working on a new one and not even enjoying the one I already made.

Still I actually don't think that a look totally belongs to a OS. Most of the looks are inspired by or taken from other systems. Sometimes it's GMTA, sometimes it's inspired.. other times it's copied. But then again, it's just a theme and not a lifestyle change, and an OS is just a means to an end when you come to think of it. The look is just there to serve a purpose, like provide a means for you to acess your information. Some people just like to have things different than others. I think it boils down to taste and you pleasing yourself with what you use. Some people might like full blown free form, buttons in weird places galore themes, some might like simple ones.. others might like no theme at all.

I gave up trying to please others with what I use a long time ago. I'd rather just use what works for me. But yeah, I have slowed down on how much I produce in terms of theming each day. We should all just remember that it is just a little hobby that we do because it is fun and we like it. When it starts to become a job or not fun anymore that's when you need to step back and evaluate what you are doing and cut back or stop what you are doing.

I use a skin or wallpaper for a couple weeks, then I get tired of it, and move on to something else. Sometimes I go back to Aqua ones, like visual styles, but I get tired of them too quickly. Same goes for wallpapers... can't stand having the same thing for too long.

OH yeah one thing that I change very often is my wallpaper. I always like finding new ones that go well with my themes.

I'm quite content with my aquabox. I only really change how it works and occasionally, (every hour or so), I change my desktop. (wallpaper).

It's functionallity is just as good as any windows box in afraid.

When you customize things, make sure they're still functional.

what are the specs of your computer?

Windowblinds on my computer is not slow, so I use it. But I have heard others say it bogs their system down. And then there are those that say yzdock is slow, even tho its been uber-fast for me since v0.2..

But if you mean ease of use, I would agree with you. On any system (be it X, XP, Win 9x or whatever..) the default thing will always be the fastest. Of course a shell replacement would be great (get a hint, programmers!)

I agree. I spent 4 days doing NOTHING but making my comp look like OS X. I am pretty damm happy with the result. But now i don't wanna mess with it too much. Maybe I'll start making my Redhat 8 install look like Aqua...
