[help]what Does A Cd Drive Do When It Craps Out

last night my cdr drive was working. then i put startcraft into my dvd drive. and my cdr drive icon changed to a windows hardrve with a question on it. and its completely gone as far as my computer is concerned. i went to hardwere profiles and its not even there. i was alteast hopeing to see it there with an ! but nothing.

and i cant open it. when i push the eject button nothing happens.

so im guessing it crapped out on me.

OH WELL, new case, new motherboard, new powersuply, now NEW cdr. maybe ill upgrade and get a dvdrw drive.

Have you checked the cables?

Does BIOS detect your drive? Does the power-light flicker on when you restart the computer? You should check your connections to make sure everything's still attached correctly.

If BIOS detects it without error, then it's a windows issue..

if you want to recover your cd, there is a tiny emergency eject hole on every optical drive. it should be located somewhere next to the eject button. just instert a straightened paper clip or alike into that hole and the tray should come out (you may have to push it somewhat deep into)
