if you want to get rid of the trash on the desktop use power toys for XP from microsoft...
if you want to rename the recycle bin, open regedit, search for the key :"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}"
then open ShellFolder, you'll see a value as "40 01 00 20", rename it to "70 01 00 20"
close regedit
then if you double clik slowly on the recycle bin you'll be able to rename it...

Thats strange... Im able to just right click on the Recycle Bin and Change its title... Im not sure if its beacuse I have a Norton Protected Recycle Bin, but it sure as hell lets me change the name with out editing registry keys.

well you can change it by just hitting F2. But to truly change it, as in change its internal name, you have to hack the registry.
