[help]3d Modeling

Hi,

I was wondering in what kind of a program could I make something like on

these pictures; ice cube or something like that!

I suppose that I could make that in a 3D modeling aplication or is it

maybe possible to do that in Photoshop?

Now which aplication do you suggest for this; in which can it be done

best and which would be the easyest to use?

And generaly how dificult is to make something like this for a beginer

in 3D modeling?

In my opinion, the best one is 3ds max (6)...

It is very powerful but a bit complicated...

If you're beginning i sugest taking some tutorials because it's kinda like beginning in Photoshop... <_<

I use Cinema 4D 8, it has a beatiful render, you can achieve excelent refractions and reflections without being an expert  , I did some ice cubes myself.

I can agree with that 100%. I'm trying to learn how to use 3dsMax myself and it's incredibly complicated. Sorry for taking this off-topic, but can anyone reccomend any good tutorials on how to use it?

to be honest - i work with both programs - 3 d max and cinema 4d - the are both superbe applications, but as it was already said- it´s really complicated to find out all the specials the programs do have - either buy the books for the applications, or better have s.o. who can teach you ............. best is .....doin some sort of practica in a company, specialized for 3 d animation - means the film industry - or advertising company........

the main question stays: what kind ov os u usin` - if u usin´mac than there is no question : cinema 4d , ´cause 3d max is only for pc.........., if u ´re doin some construction (sometimes it´s neccesary to construct the models precisly ) than again : mac= vector works + cinema 4d

pc = autocad + 3d max

both programs do not differ to much from each other, u find almost the same buttons, specials etc..........rendering with both is exellent............

but most 3d rendered pictures are later finished with photoshop.....for highlighting etc...

@simon: there are exellent books available - with a cd and step by step tutorials - just check it out at a local bookstore........take the one u think u can work best with.........

when things work out fine ----look at attachment - u can finally do whatever u want, recreate whatever u want to................icecubes than become "basics"

Thaks guys for your help!

I`m downloading Cinema 4D demo for now!!

What do you think about LightRay 3D??

haul, that's super work there, thanks for your help. A good book should help me, although basically I'm trying to teach myself to model for use on Halo PC maps. Damn it's hard...

If you're limited as far as money goes you can't get much better than Bryce. You may even be able to pick it up for free...it was on some pc mags cover disks a while ago...dual as well.

Which Cinema 4D tutorial would you suggest becouse I found a few but they are

all 30+ MB and on 56K isn`t so fun downloading them all ;)

The secret on a 3d Ice Cube is, basicaly, shaders and refractions/reflexions... no the rest, is a modded cube (Noise command on 3d Max can make quite a job).

As 3D application, i suggest Maya3d... you can download the Educational version for free to learn, they have good tutorials... the app is more simple and intuitive than 3DMax, and it´s near, if not as powerfull as 3DMax.

BTW: Cro_X, i loved your sig so much that i´m considering theft, murdering, and throwing your body on a river. JK... very nice sig, congrats.

Here`s one for you if you like it in red!

Made from my own blood after i crawled half dead from the river carrying a curse of the LIVING DEAD

hey that would be good idea - a list books/tutorials for beginners starting 3D apps.

I, myself would like some help on Maya - so would be welcome to any help!!

to do that kind of realistic rendering u need a good plug-in renderer like vray for max. (www.vrayrender.com) max's default scanline sucks, Maya's renderer Mental is pretty goo,d im not sure abt C4D, nvr use b4.

This forum has a great sample of Ice material in vray

as for the modelig part, some noise modifier on a cube i guess. i dunno abt acheiving the cracks though. that would b a challenge :P

Thank you very much "luciferx"!!!

Those textures are very nice

This is a quicky done in cinema, no post editing. I think that if you wanna go pro, film george lucas pro, is worth to go for maya, but I think for normal graphic use...cinema and 3dmax are just fine.

welcome cro_x :D Hope that helps...

razua - nicely done, do u cgtalk? where are u from?

#181727

jej..thanks, I just want to show that for transparent materials, it's all about reflexion and refraction, always can use more time on modeling, cracks and stuff like that., do I Cgtalk??....is that a forum??
