Service Pack 2

well i got a chance to try it out, and looked around the net for some pics to show off to you (since i havent yet posted screenshots online).

- better wireless networking

- advanced tcp/ip protocol 6...its something new...they say its more reliable, but we'll see what exactly they mean

- better uPnP over network. again, sharing a printer would be better by simply buying a print server and connecting it straight to your switch/router.

- built in pop up blocking in internet explorer (and it really works! it feels really good integrated)

- windows firewall...and it's comparable to norton. it's a real firewall this time around, guys.

those are the big changes i noticed...here's a few screenshots for you if you care

we'll see how it turns out! -noefexx-

Well the RC2 is available for public so we can all see these changes. Which makes this thread kinda pointless imo.

#179591

is it available for public d-load?

#179592

neowin posted it in their news about a week ago... here's the link to ms' site and instructions for it...

you will lose your theming capabilities if you install sp2, i tried it and then reverted back...

why must bashing take place? i cannot find it for public download unless you want to take the illegal route...i surely hope you wont. i thought i'd let the community know about something most probably dont.

There is a patched uxtheme.dll available for SP2 RC2, just check the Neowin.net forums...I've been running SP2 RC2 since the day it came out without any problems whatsoever, and while most of the enhancements are focused around security (beefed-up, easier to use built-in firewall, the addition of the "Security Center" to the control panel, etc...) there is also better bluetooth support (for those of us with bluetooth-enabled laptops, etc...) and a much better wireless networking setup wizard...Worth checking out, IMHO :D

yeah, there are uxtheme patches for sp2, but i'll wait until it's officially released. who knows what bugs could wreak havoc on my system?

I tried RC2, and didn't like it one bit, I reformatted and went back to SP1a with hotfixes. I found my memory usage went up, continuous erroneous error messages in my admin logs, and my mouse went haywire, I had to download mouse drivers... first time in years

"SUGGESTIONS" :rant:

At the moment don't even bother with WinXP_SP2, there are still a lot of bugs which need to be ironed out first...

I put it on and found a bug within the SP and reported this to MS and then proceeded to remove WinXP_SP2...

Wait until RC3 if there get anymore bugs then it will go to RC4 then final release... :canadian:
