[question] Flash Site Music Player

I have a question, there's a site that has some pretty nice songs from an unsigned artist I like, I want the songs themselves as MP3 for personal use and not giving them out. I've recorded them with a MP3 recorder I downloaded, but since the reocord only records at 64Kbit the songs sound very..........bleh. If I were to download the site, and use Macromedia Studio MX, would it be possible for me to get the songs, or the url to the songs themselves? I don't have my MP3 player anymore so I can't just record it.

Alternatively, if I re-encode the MP3 to 360Kbit or higher, would it sound better? I doubt it since it's already been downsampled by the program recording at 64Kbit, but just wondering anyways............*sighs* I need my MP3 player back

browse around for a flash resource extractor, i've come across them before, they allow you to exract resources such as pictures and sound files from the flash file.

That should be illeagl! I'm making my site in Flash and it will have music I made...I don't want people extracting it! Or my images for that matter. Just when I thought that Flash was a safe way... :cry:

don't worry, they are quite rare and in every one of them (that I have come across) they specifically say that extracted files are for personal use only... <_<

It's not as common as "View Source" of an HTML file, but if someone really wants to rip your work, he can do so

I wouldn't worry about people ripping your work from Flash- most people don't care enough.

Isn't there an option to "Protect from Import" when you export to SWF, or is that for something else?

Yes, you can password protect your .SWFs, but it doesn't help alot.

Bleh, I guess it helped enough in my case, When I went to extract, I only got the player's jpeg image, no songs no nothing. It's going to be hard to carry my PC to the gym to run :\

You probably tried to extract player.swf's resources, this one calls another movie 1.swf (or 1[1].swf if it's in your IE cache); meaning "track 1", which contains the audio... give it another shot.

Granted I was only able to get one song.....the one I didn't even like >.<

For some reason the two I was actually after, either the extractor couldn't extract them, because they were damaged, or when it did extract them, the songs skipped badly, but if you played them in Flash MX 2004 or Flash player, they sounded perfect.........what gives.

Weird. Can anyone recommend a free extractor? I just want to see how they work...I don't see too many Flash sites anymore.

Regarding cache, I prefer how IE caches (possibly the only thing I like better about IE) as opposed to Firefox's cache. It's a bit easier to view.

hey at last something I can try to contribute to all the excellent people here

here's what I see from most sites...and I've developed quite a few ( shout to streamsilver.net)

most flash site rely on a dynamic loading of the sound source file.....this may or may not appear in your browser cache depending on how it was set up. No matter what you try to do, you will only get a part of the whole file.

If you really want a sound file...why not ask the owner of the site you heard it from.....chances are that they own the rights to it...if they dont then they know who does.

Grabbing swf files to extract data for your own use isnt exactly kosher even though people have meda it possible.

I don't think it's so wrong to use something for personal ...use, as long as you don't redistribute it or add it to your own projects and present it as part of your own work.
