[discussion] Firefox 0.9 Bugs

I`ve installed 0.9 and i must say that as much as i like it`s improvements but i`ve found more than fair share of bugs which weren`t there with 0.8. For example, when changing themes all the content in tabs dissapears, buttons don`t change and i FF freezes untill i restart it. I`ve also had 3-4 crashes in 2 days where with 0.8 i had 2-3 in few months of using it. I also had some wierd crash with tabbrowser ext. and again i had to restart FF.

Am i the only one with these probs?

i have to reformat soon so i`ll see if this happens with the clean install too.

EDIT: i agree with realitybath, i don`t know if i love it or hate it :(

its weird.. seems to me that 0.8-0.9 has had the most bugs of any jump and the most improvements. I really like 9 better for a bunch of reasons, but yeah, there are alot of bugs, many of which seem to be erratic. I haven't had those theme problems though.

biggest ones getting one my nerves are adblock not working, some extensions not installing, some other 'compatible' extensions having a few broken functions... uh yeah, i guess all my probs are on the extension side. Though the persistent 'locked out of textfields on start untill clicking outside of firefox and then clicking back on it' bug is still there and annoying.

I've already noticed a few new bugs with thunderbird 0.7 too.

biggest ones getting one my nerves are adblock not working,

Working fine for me.

some extensions not installing,

Those "incompatible", i presume. Luckily there are so many extensions that functionality of most of them might be replaced with others.

some other 'compatible' extensions having a few broken functions...

Right. TBP, for instance. But the good thing is there are devs working on them, so solving the issue is probably a matter of days.

Never seen that problem.

I've already noticed a few new bugs with thunderbird 0.7 too.

I'll stay with 0.6 untill there's Tagzilla working properly with 0.7.

Concluding, don't think I'm some Firefox evangelist or something, no. I just think 0.9 is just a piece of really good software. I've never had any problems with it, except - as realitybath said - the incompatible extensions, but it's not that much of a problem.

there's alot of people its not working for. Its 'compatible'. 3 ff reinstalls... 3 versions ab... at least 10 ab reinstalls. doesn't work.

Those "incompatible", i presume.

Nope, "compatible".

Luckily there are so many extensions that functionality of most of them might be replaced with others.

Nope, all of the ones i can't install don't have an alternative. Only the Major few have 'partial' alternatives'.

Never seen that problem.

its been around since at least 0.6, maybe since the get-go. It also exists under linux.

i think they're making big steps (ie. theme whitelisting/attempts at the same for ext) towards doing it right, but since extensions are so important to the FF model, it really needs to be more polished for final release.

still my first choice though.

don`t turn this into a war

this place is for discussing FF 0.9 bugs and way to FIX them.

@ kyods - nobody here`s trying to bash FF 0.9

u have to accept that some pple have problems and some don`t :)

#178113

no, i wasn't trying to imply i don't like it unbeliever, i actually like it better than 8 because they've improved a few things that were bothering me alot before (ie. the bookmarks toolbar items mouseover dropdown behaviour).

just saying still a ways to go, especially right at the time of releases.

edit: and the best thing about this release is its so much more responsive (the browser itself, not just pageloading). i think most probs. will be solved when they get the upgrade feature fully implemented. no more messing with profiles/etc.

ug i'm getting to serious i gotta get off this comp. have a good day out there in realityland :yamaca:

Unbeliever, there's no war, and there's no point in starting one here, since there's a real war going on already in the MZ ;) I know there are people who can't get 0.9 working properly, I'm saying that maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe I have a really good karma, but 0.9 works perfectly for me. Yes, I had problems with Adblock, but they're gone since I installed another version. I had problems with TBP, but they're gone since I installed TBE. I got that annoying "Firefox is finishing installing extensions" bug, but I did a fresh install, zipped the profile and located the culprit by installing the extensions one at a time (it was BlankLast, BTW - useless now since I switched to TBE). And, above all: 0.9 is still fresh - I'm not counting the RC, and the core functionality seems fine for me. The extensions are buggy and that cannot be denied, but the API is still pretty new and maybe they just need some time to get polished. That's what I'm trying to say. I'm not here to point a finger and state "I'm 1337, I got it working nice" or "You can't get it working? Obviously you're too stupid to use the computer", no. I'm as far from this kind of attitude as I could ever be. Yes, there are bugs, but it's still beta and it's gonna get better, and at this point I end this lecture in agreeing with realitybath, what was my purpose from the beginning. ;)

Adblock issue is kinda strange at all. My friend just told me .37 nightly works perfectly fine for him.

Nope, "compatible".

It seems the compatibility list changes daily. Maybe we just need some time for it to get stabilized.

Nope, all of the ones i can't install don't have an alternative.  Only the Major few have 'partial' alternatives'.

Tough luck, then. The only way, I guess, is reporting the bugs in the MZ.

its been around since at least 0.6, maybe since the get-go.  It also exists under linux.

Have never noticed it though. And I'm with this browser since 0.6.1 I guess.

Agreed, but the extensions aren't really their job.

still my first choice though.

I second that.

#178130

Adblock fixed!!! for those still having problems.

aaah... that's the good stuff

:6 :mellow::huh::o:lol: (Y) ^_^

(sorry for crossthread post, but this can be an annoying thing not to have.)

edit: just responding to your 'extensions aren't their job' kyods... i disagree with that statement, as they are obviously(an must) trying to streamline the extensions/browser integration and have compatible extensions. The issues are

1. That which they are attempting to do(and obviously think is important/desirable, was improperly done. ie. there are many buggy (ie. not really compatible) extensions that have fallen into the whitelist.

2. Some extensions are so important to general usage(ie. perusercap percentage is so high) that delaying browser releases to coincide with important extension upgrades is viable and perhaps desirable.

i'm not ragging on them, i'm just guessing at what they seem to be aiming at.

love the work they've done.

regular expressions in adblock rock! :D

i have the theme bug. not a big deal, though. 0.9 is faster than 0.8, so i'm happy.

#178410

i had to switch to a nightly build from 0.9

0.9 kept crashing on me on startup (outta nowhere).

the only way to run it was to run in compatibility mode as Windows 95 :S

so i grabbed the latest nightly available (still uses Qute as theme and STILL is marked as 0.8+) and i'm using it. sux, since it seems to be outdated in relation to the 0.9 release (even though it's tagged as a june 16th build)

#178416

what sort of crashes?

#178442

It works like a charm for me. I installed it over 0.8 (didn't notice that it might be dangerous) but I have no problems. My favourite theme is installed, when I change themes everything is ok. 3 extensions installed so far (All-in-one gestures, Compact menu and Titlebar tweaks)...oh and I have this great extension that shows progressbar in the address bar, just like in Safari :D

It's faster and looks very nice. I can't complain  :D Though I'm a little bit afraid to install Flash plugin - I had problems with it in 0.8 Flash sucks >.<

What is the extenstion that shows progress in the address bar? I heard about it, did it get updated already? :woot:

I have had zero problems so far, its working smoothly for me!

EDIT

Pe7er, no problems with the flash plug-in yet! To be safe, back up your chrome file. Wonder why it is called chrome anyway...hmm eh?

#178487

Here you go juno, it's here. I'd link you to Mozilla forums where I found it but I lost the link. I hope that mods won't kill me for posting it here :P

It works with default theme and with the one

I am using right now. I don't know if it'll work with a'la Safari themes - they looked bad in 0.8 I think it has something to do with rounded address field.

Thanks for the info about Flash plugin :)

#178502

well my probs are not going away

0.9 is still acting wierd and changing themes is a nightmare!

this happens when i change to Pinstripe (untill i restart FF)

PS What`s that ext Pe7er?

#178504

Read my post above, Olek. It puts progressbar in the address bar. I'm sorry that you have probs with your firefox :( Maybe you installed too many extensions? I'm keeping it light right now, don't want to overload it.

Oh and do something with that awful compact menu icon for osx's sake! ;)

#178505

FF hates me :((

i installed that ext but i can`t see it in ext list

@ Piotrek - i have only TBE, Compact Manu and now this ext installed.

i think that`s as light as possible :(

is this how that ext should look/work?

#178506

I like ff 0.9 :)

and i have only one problem - TBE... doubleclick on tab doesn't do anything  (i use to close tab but now can't)

and sometimes (NOT always) when i popup smilies window from A-S forums i get new, really big (expanded four both of my monitors  ) and empty window... not 100% reproducible but... i can live with it :beer2:

#178507

u have to set that in options of TBE ;)

PS How do i uninstall this ext Piotrek? I can`t find it anywhere and it`s not in the xt list

#178508

I suggest you to throw TBE out. It's not updated for 0.9 yet - wait until it appears @ Mozilla Update. I think this is the cause of your problems.

And yes, this is how this extension works. I don't know why it doesn't appear on the list (same here) but the most important thing is it doesn't cause any problems here :)

#178509

i just tried with some mre themes, looks bad

PS I`m such a crybaby :P

#178514

It looks bad indeed. But on the other hand, Fusion never really worked for me. I suppose the theme itself should be tweaked to it, but it's only my blind guess.

Ah, Unbeliever. And your theme switching problems seem to have something common with TBE installed. I'm seeing it also, but I rarely switch themes, so it's IMHO a really minor issue.

Of course i set that option... and it's work for me about a day. But than i close FF - go for sleep - start FF and  Doubleclick become malfunction.

Any more suggestion?

#178535

Just uninstall TBE and wait for it to appear @ Mozilla Update. :)
