Xp has no dos in the sence of the word. :(

Press f8 at boot up and you'll get a sceen with a series of prompts. A few modes of how you would like xp to boot.

Cheers

part2: does anyone know how to overwrite shell32.dll and the other 6 system files that the safemode-command prompt doesnt work for?

open any folder, go to "Tools" -----> "Folder Options" ----> "View". Under the View tab, CHECK "Show hidden files and folders" and UNCHECK "Hide protected operating system files".

Then, Ctrl+Alt+Del, end Explorer.exe, go to "File" ---> "New Task (Run)...". Browse to the folder you put the files in, copy cmd.exe, browse to \windows\system32 and find the old cmd.exe. Rename it to cmd.bak, then paste in the file you copied. When a dialogue comes up saying that a file has been changed and to insert the SP1 disk or whatever, click cancel, then click "Yes" to keep the new file, and do this for each file
