YZ Dock vs Objectdock

Hi ,

I have been reading this forum for a few days now and have found it very helpful in the setting up of the YZ Dock. When I heard that ObjectDock was being released by Stardock, I mistakenly thought that ObjectDock would be far more superior than YZ Dock (and MobyDock) but I have just downloaded and installed it and ObjectDock stayed on my system for about 10 minutes. This was long enough to realize that Yamaguchi's YZ Dock is going to be a better dock.

Sure, Objectdock has the bouncing icons that everyone here seems to what so much but when it comes down to it, I want a fast and graphically smooth application launcher.

If Mr Yamaguchi would consider a clock, a fully functional Recycle Bin and a menu system for folders for the next beta I would be very happy...

Any other comments on the Object Dock ?

I agree with you completely. Objectdock is not very customizable (as far as I could see if the few minutes I experimented), but if they keep building on this beta, it could turn into something rather good. Right now, however, I'm back to Yz!

Guys, remember that you shouldn't compare Y'z Dock to others. Respect all of the docks and don't compare them. They are all free, and the more docks there are, the more resources the developers have to look at other docks. Soon, we will all have our perfect docks! Until then, dont compare.

I think people keep misusing respect. Since when do people need to shut-up. That kind of a request is neither contructive and is insulting. If anybody doesn't like what they see don't read it. People are entirely entitled to express their opinion on most items, we don't live in a dictatorship or live our lives under the control of somebody else. Stiffling opinion is not what the internet is about, not what democracy is about, and not what innovation is about. being able to give an opinion is extremely important in any technical project and I hope people that tell others not to compare at somepoint realize this. The freedom of others end where my freedoms begin and the respect of others ends where they need to respect the fact that you are entitled to an opinion. Let's not start a flame war but let's not start to control other people either.

well, honestly I must say - HEY!

Did any of the dock creators claim yet that they wanna do a 100% apple dock clone? I doubt that!

Like Y´s already said that he WONT include thumbnail system into his dock. Dont expect a 100% clone of the dock. Also, why do you want a 100% clone of the apple dock? Do you "just" like the look and feel of the Apple GUI? Or do you like the functional aspect of the dock? How many of you ever saw the REAL DOCK in action on a mac? Is it really necessary to "copy" everything from the original?

The ObjectDock used to have the Genie Effect which would have given it a good edge if they made this release with the Genie Effect, but it was slow on large windows, he should have atleast made it optional. Stardock may have forced him not to add it into it because it is freeware and windowfx 2 does something similair.

Well, as I see it, Y'z is the way to go. Authenticity aside, Y'z just runs faster and is a LOT easier to customize. Sure, the icons don't bounce, no genie effect, etc., but as many of those before me have said, these are all just frills. What it really boils down to is "Which dock is more functional?"; in other words, what dock actually performs as a launcher and task bar and which dock just looks pretty? Right now, the functional one for me is Y'z.

it worked just as good for me in the 0.1 stage as it does now now in 0.3.1...well there might be a slightly higher increase in speed. The main feature I wanted since 0.1 was the auto-hide option and in the very next release 0.2 we got it =) so I'm happy with the dock.

comparing the 3rd beta of YZ with the first beta of ObjDck isn't

very fair.

i am quite anxious to see what Moby and Yz have instore for the next betas..

I agree on comparisons, they can be made, this is not for competition purposes. Saying the pros and cons of everyone is comparison, saying this one is way better than the other is offensive ans you might say. I believe that comparison should be done when it might be fair, not saying this one sucks, that would offend. No one can deny the great job done by all the Dock creators, each one has its good points.

The reason why I have been asking for a minimize to dock feature is not because it's just like a mac but I like that function. Before I was into mac themes I used to like "Enlightenment" themes which had that sort of function with it's icon box. So it's not like I'm asking for that just for the sake of it being like a mac with just looks and no functionality cause I like the function... the icon box module for litestep was almost there.. but it used an old method for screencapping which was kinda flakey and that's all it did, snapshot minimized windows. But here we have a dock that has more functionality with launching apps, and even keeping track of tasks. So I'd like to see this function put in to one of the fee docks at least.

The objectdock version of it is kinda nice. But still not quite what I have on my mind. I want the thumbnail to appear between the seperator and the trash can. Kinda like mobydock except showing minimized windows instead of explorer related.

I see though that Y doesn't want to add it to his dock so.. I guess it's time for me to learn to program and make my own... =Þ

But still I see that some people don't like it.. well, I can't be afraid to voice my opinion cause someone might get mad. So I'm going to continue to voice it.

I'm getting sick of watching you people complain about the comparisons others make. The thing is, is that the comparisons is based on SOMEONE ELSES opinion. Can you spell O-P-I-N-I-O-N, just because someone has given THEIR OWN comparison which is done with their opinion doesn't mean you should go dissing them for making a comparison. If you'd like to debate what their reason for their conclusion then go ahead but DO NOT complain about someone making an OPINION.

at first I didn't get what you said but after thinking about it for awhile and saying it out load I realized it had to do with star trek, normally I would not have known that but for the past few months I found out my tnn channel has star trek =). Also I noticed your Mac site has a Star Trek logo.
