ObjectDock is HERE!

thanks! :)

OMG, i love the bouncing icon when someone instant messages you! Guess it just replaces the blinking taskbar, but it is awesome!

#1475

I tried out objectdock but I ended up going back to MobyDock.

The major reason why is that I can't really rearrange ObjectDock the way I want it, I tried moving the "My computer" icon to the left of the tasks and it kept on bouncing back to the right of the divider. I wanted to have just the trash can on the other side of the divider but I couldn't make it arrange that way no matter how hard I tried.

Also it is nice that it has snapshots of minimized windows but it wasn't quite what I had in mind. I wanted it to appear as a seperate icon between the trash and the divider but instead it turns the task icon into a snapshot.

I'm also missing the triangles under the tasks, I know that it is not really nessasary but I like to see them anyway.

But these things probably won't be fixed because that is not his goal so....

Well, mobydock doesn't have the minmize window to dock feature I want, but it looks good and it has triangles under the open apps that you have in there. If only it had minmize to snapshot then I would be perfectly happy.

If Y'z dock added a minimize to a snapshot between the trash and divider feature and triangles under the open apps, then I would switch to that for sure.

And here I was hoping objectdock would be a modular.. fully customisable with different behaviors for certain things (such as the minimisation effect).. but oh well..

wha..

oh my..

huh?

wow..

hey..

um..

#1480

The next release of ObjectDock will have the option of moving the tasks to the right

#1481

do you know exactly when the update will be released duck?

#1485

it supports ico, which is a huge deal

#1489

check out duckies dock review its on the main page :)

#1493

here is what I came to do. This is great:

mydock.jpg

It has supports for ICO that rocks, it has thumbnail, I couldnt ask for more.

#1495

WOW! A worthy dock-alike. I love how it's based on the mac dock but it's not trying to be a clone. It's its own thing and I love it... I could actually use this instead of my taskbar... can't do that with the other dock replacements :)

two questions:

1) How can I get my start menu to show up by clicking on something in the dock? (I still need it sometimes)

2) Will you support dragging items off the dock to close them? I don't mean deleting shortcuts, but rather closing open programs? I don't know if the mac dock behaves like that, but I think it'd be cool :)

great job jeff. i love it. it's more fun than the mac dock :)

#1498

ricky... good idea with the clicking of something show the start menu. Good workaround until i'm able to add in menus of some sort. hehe Glad you like it for what it is :) Will be ever-improving, keep a look out!

#1505

press your windows hey, the one between ctrl and ALT with the windows logo, it will open your start menu.

#1506

Unfortunately, now that I've added all my shortcuts to ObjectDock, it's running rather slow on my system with GDI mode. I'm gonna have to keep using Y'z Dock for now, despite how much I like ObjectDock :) If/when it gets a performance boost, I'll switch back. Great work.

ok - for those of you who were trying to get the correct poof,

here you go:

JEFF, i see you reading this topic thank you for honoring us with your presence here - YOURE A TRUE HERO.. im really surprised from how fully featured it is....THANK YOU SO MUCH.. (a tiny question: is there a way to make the zooming effect like in yz dock in the next release?)

#1514

Hey goku, thanks for that poof animation.. That jaguar one looked kinda funny ;)

#1515

- guess HE didnt wanna reply :) oh well THANKS FOR THE GREAT APPLI jeff.

- youre welcome master b.

#1518

heh Goku: thank you very much for the support :) :) Hoping I can make ObjectDock the best I can! Thanks everyone for being patient, I'm here soaking in the user feedback on this first ever release, then going to act on it ;)

On the note of an improved magnification feature, yes I'm looking into that. Hope to have a more Mac-like alternative in the next release.

Thanks again for the support everyone!

-Jeff

#1521

thank you very much Jeff, this is really a great product :)

#1524

Great job Jeff!

Very nice.

I don't know if by "soaking in the user feedback " your taking suggestions...but I have one anyways...its worth what it cost ya! :)

in this forum Godpunk has been working on background skins for Y'z Dock much like the ones at IHeartNY.com that are done for OSX.

A limiting problem for skinning a dock like those on Iheartny's website is an added layer put in front of the icons allowing for cool themes like the lawn one on the IHeartNY site (you can see how close Godpunk was able to get to in the previously mentioned forum).

I am assuming you will allow for the skinning of the backgrounds eventully so I wanted to mention how cool the abilltiy to turn a foreground layer on would be. I figured I should slip this idea in now before you have released a skinnable background for your Wicked dock!

No pressure or anything like that, just a cool idea I thought, plus it seems (to a non-programmer) like something that might be simple to do.

Edit::by the way Moby and Mr Y feel free to run with this idea as well...I'd post it in your forums but I don't wanna spam everything up.

#1532

Great program, it's actually just as useful as the taskbar. Could you allow us to change the background bitmap in realtime? (like y'z dock). And could you also allow us to pick from individual folders like y'z dock so that it doesnt take 10 seconds for the window to load? (I have alot of png's :)) Those are the only suggestions I can think of for now. Thanks for developing this jeff!

#1537

a masterfully crafted program jeff

I do have one thing I am looking for and that is the ability to make icon menu's (have icons pop up once a mouse is moved over another icon). Otherwise keep up the good work on making the dock run smoothly and cpu/memory efficent :)

#1544

yes plz.. mag effect like yz would be good.

#1555

Yeah....the mag effect on ObjectDock is nice but inaccurate.......it would be great to have a magnification effect similar to that of the y'z dock......but Jeff, this dock runs amazingly smooth...I'm impressed.

Great work!!!! :D

I have a suggestion...

While the icons are resizing nicely, the text/label is very jumpy...

What I mean is, the label jumps straight from "My Computer" to "Configure Object Dock"....

Can people at Stardock add a "lable transition" effect? Such as, fade in and fade out (old icon label fade out, new icon label fade in).

Sorry that I can't explain myself very well, but I hope that you get the idea....
