Stop The Flaming Already

Hi Guys.

I don't open my mouth that much in here, but this time I think I'm obligated to. I've been comin' here since forever, and I think that recent development in the way some people treat eachother is gettin' out of hand.

I come to this community everyday, and have done for the past 2 1/2 years. The thing that I like most about this forum is the really nice tone/atmosphere that consist in here.

Recently though some people have started flaming eachother putting all of their personal differences out into A-S. Please...and I say again PLEASE use the PM's for all of that, or email, or msn etc... I don't care where, just as long as you don't ruin the really really friendly tone in this fine community.

I'm sorry if I stepped on peoples toes.

Keep in mind ALL MEMBERS: I really respect all of you, you have given me so much!

Cheers

Don't worry Jon@z, I'm a changed man and it is possible to teach people to be nice to eachother. we also need to make n00bs acctually read the rules before joining, and enforce stricter punishments more frequently. Also, I think the rules should apply to all members, not just the new ones, but people that have been here for years, even tho they have proven themselves dedicated. I also think there should be a different warning method in which only members who are really bad get banned. Personally, I believe my warnings seem ridiculous (no offense Stevie or contra) and the same reasons they punished me, were not used when others did similar things. Anyways, I don't think we need to shove people out, but educate them instead. Also, I consider alot of those "thank you" posts to be spam unless they have some other theme to them, most members (except for the creators) don't want to read through all of that but, sometimes may have to to find an update or skin, etcetera. Well, that's my two cents.

It'll never stop... there's too many different personalities here. There are a few "Instant Assholes... Just Add Computer" people, but most people are all-right.

I've had my share of "flames" but i only do it, if i think the opposite party is way off base with their ideals. I, also, try to make them into a debate, rather then a really childish, uninformative argument.

Some people just need to keep saying this over and over in their head before they hit Add reply: "Flames are like the Special Olympics 40 Ft. Dash... Even if you win, you're still retarded."

I would tend to agree with XJOSHATTACKX on this one (and on many more). There are too many people here -and growing in numbers everyday- to be kept happy and quiet. Every once in a while some difference fight is meant to pop out, sadly.

All that we can do is tackle this kind of situations as they happen, warn the partcipants and remove their posts; sometimes it is too late as none of us mods are here to cut it from the root so to speak.

I have seen, however, too many times flamewars getting out of hand specially because other member that werent involved in the original flamewar, pop in to crap summore on the thread.

If you want to help things be calmer around here, the best thing you can do is PM a mod and stay out. We will take care of it as soon as we can (which is usually VERY soon)

Also, i think this fits more in comments and suggestions and it is very [on topic] ;)

I'm a newer member of your site, and to be honest, it threw me off a bit with the attitude that I've experienced. No offense; it's a great site and there are great people, but one of the first impressions I got was that people didn't seem to be as friendly as I'm used to. I'm not trying to start a flame myself, but then again, that's the point of this post, I suppose.

I am currently a moderator of a very large community (Simtropolis.com), and I have to admit that I haven't seen this type of thing happen there. We have 30k+ members to deal with and everyone is wonderful.

Again, nothing personal to you all. However, I feel that some of the long-timers here don't seem to be as friendly as I'm used to. This is very important with the nature of your site and its reputation. I will continue to encourage those interested in Mac Emulation to visit in hopes that their visit is a good one.

Regards,

-J

Oh yeah, you're really brilliant. Did you come up with "Don't kill people or steal" too? ;)

Online societies work in a similar fashion to real life societies. Real life has its assholes too. You can't escape that by coming online. I think the key is to show some maturity and not respond to the trolls/flames. I think there are more nice folks than jerks here.

The nice thing though is that online you can delete posts you don't like.

i was once an utopian thinking that people are in their esseance good and that society makes them idiots. but since then i`ve found out that i was wrong. VERY wrong. i know i was one of those who were complaining about mods being too strict but that was BEOFRE i became the member of the staff and before i realized how much work and nerves it takes to keep this community in good shape. Many times i came by a flame war and i just couldn`t do anything about it (since i`m not a mod) but if i could i`d close the thread cause if pple want to go after each other, let them flame via PMs, rather than making a sensation of it in a public thread. So i say, bring back contra and his iron fist (or penguin, whatever it was :P )

Let the flamer hunt begin! :P :moon:

Its because everyone on this forum thinks they are all that in a bag of chips.

I'm hungry. :canadian:

Yes but flaming makes me feel better about myself.

LOL, just joking

Sometimes though people, you have to admit that flaming is the right action to take. I know that flaming the newer folk get flamed for questions that have been answerd a ton, those peeps shouldnt be flamed.

But when you post a topic asking if your shoes are dirty, than you better believe im coming to get ya
