[help] Should I Buy An Ipod?

Hi. I've been wanting to buy a great walkman/mp3-player-type-thingie for a long time! I've already purchased a bunch of songs through iTunes, so they're AAC encoded. Now, I know the iPod is expensive but I have the money...it's just I want to choose wisely. If I were to get an iPod, I would get the 15Gig. I don't own a Mac, I have a PC with USB 1.0 ports still.

Anywho, my ultimate question is: Is there a better alternative to iPod?

Thanks for your time,

Nando

iPod is the best, although it is grossly overpriced...

actually i hear that the iriver players are good, very sleek looking and work really well.

iRiver Media players

the mp3 cdplayer that came out a year or so ago... was actually one of the best bets in comparison to all the cd mp3 players out there... the actual hardcase mp3 players are just as good...

You won't regret an iPod, although you will want to upgrade your PC to firewire or USB 2.0.

New gen ipods with color screens are probably coming in Q4, according to the mac rumor scene.

Also, wouldn't you want to way to see what Sony's PSP is like? I would :).

As already mentioned, you might be worthwhile waiting (at least 'til WWDC on the 28th of June) before you get a new iPod... See if anything's mentioned then, and then decide whether you can wait 'til 4th Gen. comes out or not - I'm supposed to be getting an iPod for my birthday/graduation (20th and 18th of June, respectively), but I'm waiting until the 28th to see what news of the 4th Gen. there is, and if it's announced that it'll be released within 6 months, I'll wait :D

Hei!

Yes you should - absolutely! I have mine now for over a year, have taken it to the beach, have been lying on it (ouch... ) and so on. It has no flaw 'till today, have had to reset it only 3 times in all that time... And - it has become really essential for me.

Aside from that, it's true, wait for WWDC, you'd regret it if you bought one now and there would be coming out a new one....

jojo

PS: About the bad battery life: Mine runs 7 - 8.5 hours with one charge still, after that year of a lot of usage (it's a gen3)...

trust me (on the sunscreen) :P

there is NO WAY that Apple will announce a Gen 4 iPod or even mention one few months before they are ready to ship. The sales of current iPods would plummet. + Toshiba's new 60giggers won`t be out till sept/oct so don`t expect anything before that timeframe. when ur (fanatically) following Apple u get to know these kind of stuff ;)

and noone i know ever regreted buying an iPod. It`s the best, most wonderfull thing there is (words of an iPod fanatic).

I still call mine "babyPod"

i wouldn`t be able to live without it!

PS i was thinking for 4 months to buy one (after a year of exploring it) and after i bought mine i wanted to kick myself for not buying it sooner, it`s that good!

iPod fanatic, over & out!

To everybody,

Thanks for answering so quickly.

After reading all of your replies, I've made the decision to buy it. I don't think I'll be able to wait a bunch of months if a newer iPod on the way. I've been listening to an am/fm walkman where I work but it gets bad reception and that's why I wanted to buy the iPod.

To Seph:

Hey, would you like me to buy you one?

Thanks guys,

Nando

If you have the money you should get an iPod.

Life without a themesong is pretty boring... ;)

N.b. I had a few probs with mine and have had to send it to apple. They should replace it in a few days (weeks)... I wish they would hurry up. -_-

To keep you updated, I got the 15 Gig w/ a light blue case for protection & I got the USB 2.0 cable...but after I bought it, I realized that my laptop has that small firewire port, so I'm gonna return the USB cord.

Anywho, thanks again! It's turning out really awesome! I have 40-something songs downloaded so far. ;) I'm still adjusting to the buttons...thank God for the "hold" switch...it's like if I just breath on the iPod, the buttons activate!
