[question]monitor Icon

hello, this is my first post although I've been lurking for quite a while now.

My question is basically, what is the purpose of the monitor icon that many people have in thier screenshots? Or, more specifically, what is it for on the mac, and what is it for in windows(Or does this vary per user...)?

This isn't a late breaking or important question, I was just wondering what this does exactly.

I think it probably varies with the user. I use the monitor icon as the "my computer" icon. Sometimes I'll switch it up though and use the finder icon as the "my computer" icon.

Im probably wrong but the monitor icon on the mac may be used for the display settings.

I use it for 'putty' on my Windows machine and a 'Darwin / terminal' window for OSX

I know that it can do anything, but what does it do on the mac OS? is it basically an appearance preferences menu link or a my computer type link?

also, I mean the black and white one found on the finderbar, not the fancy png one.
