[help] Add-on Amd Processor Card?

Can anyone help me?

I am looking into an add-on cpu card for an AMD Athlon XP 1700+. A friend gave me this processor.

I already have one in my machine and I want to use the other one, making it a dual processor machine.

I can only find information on one card (ROCKY-772EV), and no websites list pricing.

The questions:

• Does anyone have any experience with one of these cards? (or any other AMD add-on card)

• Are they worth the trouble?

• Would I be better off getting a dual processor MoBo?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I might be misreading this but from the looks of it the card you're looking at is called a "single board computer", which means the card itself is a fully functional computer.

It has all of the input/output ports in its back, and has memory slots, IDE controllers and everything else built into it.

So I don't believe this is an add-on card that would go in a regular motherboard; according to what I read you plug the card into a passive backplane, which supplies the power.

This seems like something that would appeal to the server market. The idea is you can upgrade/downgrade your computing power by plugging these add-on cards in.

Again, maybe you know better than me, considering I just read on the subject.

Ive never heard of an addon card for an x86 system, secondly, you cant run athlons, unless there athlon MPs, in a dual motherboard. Thirdly, just send me the extra 1700 and your happiness will increase by 73.5/3%, i guarantee it, ask seph.
