[question] Safari Performance

Heya... sorry if I didn't tag this appropriately, but didn't know what else to use... so here goes

How many of you Mac users think that Safari is one of THE fastest browsers offered for Mac users? I finally upgraded from 10.1 to Panther today and I was SHOCKED with how much faster Safari performs in comparison to Firefox and IE.

I am loving Safari moreso than I imagined; it's one of the fastest browsers I've ever used (not to mention it's down-right-purdy - hehe)

How many of you feel the same way?

OH I forgot to add, it also does a GREAT job of rendering pages, even moreso than Firefox

Regards!

iAgree ;)

Amazing speed, just maybe a little light on features. Firefox can be expanded to whatever ones likes are, it is amazing what all those extensions can do. THat is something the mac community needs to start working on. Developing safari add-ons.

I would use firefox but it has two main flaws i cant stand

1.- the text in the buttons and toolbar look FUGLY

2.- It takes ages to lead in comparison to Safari, and trust me, my mac has speed to launch them quickly ;)

Try camino, its a great browser too

If you want faster page rendering, but not as many feature as Safari; Use Shiira. And open source (WebKit) browser that really is zippy. It also auto-imports Safari bookmarks (so no need to re-add 'em all!), but I still prefer Safari over it.

Oddly, on Windows; Firefox was my favourite browser. But.. I don't know, it just doesn't seem to compete with Safari for me. Maybe I'm odd.

I'm sorry... that's why I posted it here and not in the PC section (even thought I use both platforms).

I agree, the feature set is light, but what they have implimented is pretty good.

OH geez, I just tried Shiira. This is a gazillion times faster than Safari.... wow.

This thing runs on top of the Safari's engine right? I see that it renders buttons/fields with Cocoa.

Er yes and no. It uses the WebKit framework, which is basically what Safari uses. Anyone can make use of the framework - even I made myself a zippy minimalistic browser. ;)
