Adding Splash Screens To Office Xp

Alright everyone, sorry for not telling you before, but I went to write another post and I couldn't get into the site at 4am. I kept trying but the site would never load so I had to wait until this morning.

This method actually modifies the exe files, so you don't need to keep the program or splash screens in any certain location once you are done to keep it working.

Here are my screenshots:

1)The first thing you need to do is go into your Office folder and make sure your Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Outlook programs (or ANY program you want to do this to for that matter) are NOT read only. (Right-click, Properties, Uncheck Read-Only).

2) Download Splasher 3.0 HERE.

3) Download the splashes in bitmap format HERE.

4) Unzip Splasher and run the program. Find the .exe file you want to add a splash to. Then find the bitmap you want to use as the splash, and hit Attach!. If it says "Cannot make backup file!" hit OK anyway and it will still work. The program actually modifies the EXE with the splash screen. If it says "Cannot find file" (or something like that), then you didn't make sure your .EXE files were NOT Read-Only.

5) Once done, open up your programs and enjoy!

6) But wait, there is more!!! To remove the OLD splashes that appear after the new splashes, add these switches to the programs.

For Word - /q

For Excel - /e

For Powerpoint - /splash

If you are using Y'z Dock (as I am), you add the switches to the argument section of the Dock Item Properties.

I haven't looked up to see how to get rid of the Outlook splash yet, but I'm sure it's possible.

NOTE: Do NOT try it on IE, it will NOT work. I tried, and even if you go ahead with the process, it will mess your iexplore.exe file up. It can easily be replaced but I'm just telling you ahead of time.

After doing a ton of research on Office XP, this was the only conclusion I could think of also.

There used to be on the older versions, but in XP there isnt. But with this program we could use the one from mac and that would be great, but unfortunatly it doesnt work:( Oh well, I know the people of this community can figure it out. Later.

ok i worked great the fisrt time that i ran the program but the next time that i tries to run it i got thing saying that it need to reinstall part of word and then it created a new copy of winword. what did i do wrong? should i have used the exes in the common files folder?

i loved how it looked but how do you get it to say working?

also is there a bmp for outlook yet?

I got it to work just fine by using the files in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10" folder. Entourage is basically Outlook for the mac, so I just use that bitmap.

Under the splash screen section there is all sorts of splash screens for applications and Internet Explorer (if that is ever figured out). You can download splash screens for any program you want (you'll need StuffIt to expand them though).

Anybody find out how to get rid of the ? that appears on OD, when word launches now? It's due to the new splah screen.

It's there for like 1 second, you can right click it, but the dialog is hidden from view by the splash screen. The moment the splash screen clears, so does the dialog for changing the .png of the questionmark.

EDIT:

I fixed the problem described above:

Open your Appimages.ini in your OD folder.

And the bottom of the .ini, under [classes]

add:

Static=pathtoyourwordicon.png

i.e. in mine it's

Static=apps\word.png

Works perfect.

HearshotKidDisaster, the key word there is "almost". Before I realized there was a version 3.0 I tried 2.0 and it said the same thing yet it didn't work on Office, but 3.0 does. Just because it's a 32bit application doesn't mean it is 100% going to work. But, since the source is included anyone with decent programming skills could take a look at it and see if they can add anything. If I knew anything about it I would, but one semester of C++ isn't gonna do jack, lol.
