[question] Alienware Sentia Or Apple Powerbook

which to get? alienware sentia or apple powerbook. I love BOTH oses, and have a luverly pc at home what can play my games, and ill use it 4 watching divs on the move and hwk etc. THe alienware has better screen, the apple has faster wifi. the alienware has better battery, the apple has a certain coolness.

They cost £1500 each- 1.6gig centrino vs 1.5gig g4, 512mb ram each, 60gb hdd each.

Which is better?

im leaning toward alienware, coz ive heard of aple not playing divx/xvid well.

ps im getting an ipod soon!!!! YAY!!!!

Ok, i would say go for the AlBook but as said countless times, it depends on what you need it for and what is your personal preference, at the end of the day, you can do what you want on both... really.

Now, the topic title... what kind of question is "laptop?", please be more informative in your topic names, also, you might want to check out tags and keep them in mind when creating a thread.

well if you have a good pc at home already, y not get the Powerbook and get the Apple experience as well.

About Apple not playing dvix/Xvid well I don't know, but I know VLC plays divx.

It's all about what are going to use it for? Do you want to play games? High end games? If so then go for the AW. Most games take a while to be available on the Mac, however, there a few developers that try to push a simultaneously release Win and Mac version. Although it's rare.

Also, are all the programs that you use on a Windows machine available for the Mac? if so then that is another plus for pB.

Do you have a Girlfriend/Boyfriend? If not, the pBook definitly has class :naughty: . And the iPod will also help in that category.

Also remember that the pBook's aluminum case is very malleable. One hit on the corner and it's dented. So you will have to handle it with more care.

all ill use my laptop for is watching movies, interweb and word/excel etc. i also see the g4 ibook- it looks nice, and is cheaper.

the laptop also needs to be portable- smalle and long battery. mmm 12inch ibook :dizzy:

If that's all you intend to use it for, and you've got no objection to a 12" screen, I'd definitely recommend the iBook - it's small, fairly powerful, and will easily do everything you want...

If, however, you're like me (a power-hungry freak who wants to have a minimum of 2Gb of RAM imposed on all of his machines), you might be better with a PowerBook - it's got that lil' extra power.

Alienware = low-end, overpriced ferreri of a computer.

iBook =well it's mac if you're into that.

But for your stated needs and usaged, an ibook would probably be better.

Otherwise i'd go with homebuilt or a Falcon NW Mach *.*

It is possible, although it is really hard, and more expensive than to buy a manufatured one. Mostly because companies don't make laptop parts to be sold individually to consumers, only to computer manufatures.

I would recommend the iBook over the Powerbook for a few reasons.

price

the iBook is much more durable .. the aluminum powerbook can get bent up

the iBook has betted wifi range - its plastic case VS the aluminum case for the powerbook

As far as software goes, there is very little I cannot do on my iBook. Some of the Apple Apps are awesome. There are tons of third party apps that do just about everything you can imagine. Gaming on the Mac is not great. But you said you have a great gaming machine at home.

The iBook sounds perfect for your needs... price, power, usability. no probs.

In terms of watching movies, between VLC (*drool*... 0-pix borders), WMP, Quicktime, and the dreaded Realplayer (for some streaming content) I have yet to find an unplayable format in OSX.

Good choice .. get yourself a power adapter for the car and airplane for watching the movies. They sell one on the apple store bu I found one cheaper at a store. The battery life is good without it but I still recommend the adapter so your battery is good when you get where you are going. Cheers
